Job Code : 45065 Salary Grade : 15 Salary : $23.26 / hr - $37.44 / hr FLSA : Nonexempt The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. The State Court of DeKalb County is seeking a State Certified Spanish Interpreter to provide interpretation services for the State Court judicial divisions. This position will be required to interpret effectively, accurately, and impartially from English to Spanish and Spanish to English for criminal defendants, judges, witnesses, victims, public defenders, prosecutors, other attorneys, State Court Probation employees, and other court personnel necessary for the non(1)English speaking defendant’s full participation in the case that is before the court. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing interpreting services for numerous criminal proceedings such as arraignments, motions hearings, probation revocation hearings, pleas, bench and jury trials and when available, for civil calendars such as motions or jury trials. Administrative duties include creating coverage calendars for State Court hearings to ensure all divisions have interpretation services as needed. This may include scheduling outside interpreter coverage which is done in consultation with the other staff interpreter or the Clerk of Court’s Office. The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate knowledge of the Code of Professional Responsibility for Interpreters, Ethics and Standards, the Georgia Supreme Court Rules on the Use of Court Interpreters, familiarity with courtroom protocol, familiarity with the range of regional and cultural variations in terminology and usage of the Spanish language. The interpreter will be required to maintain confidentiality and objectivity and be flexible in meeting multiple demands. Minimum Qualifications : Associate degree in Criminal Justice or Languages; three years of experience in interpreting in a court setting. Specific License or Certification Required : Candidate must be a Licensed Legal Interpreter by the Supreme Court Commission on Interpreters.
