Job description

Orchard Farm High School is seeking a Special Education - Paraprofessional to join our team!

Paraprofessionals provides social, physical, and academic support and / or supervision in general and special education settings, including but not limited to, the cafeteria, classrooms, recess, and assemblies. These services may include ambulatory, eating and toileting assistance.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • High School diploma or equivalent, required
  • 60 credit hours from an accredited college / university or DESE approved 20-hour substitute certification course, required.
  • Missouri substitute certification, preferred, see how to obtain below.
  • Ability to relate to students, staff, and parents in a positive manner
  • Ability to communicate clearly in verbal and written form
  • Ability to follow written and oral communication
  • Ability to use word processing and data entry systems
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs occassionaly
  • Ability to squat, bend, kneel, reach, walk, stand frequently
  • Ability to problem solve situations in a professional and logical manner
  • Ability to remain calm and patient at all times
  • Ability to motivate students for classroom achievements

An individual who holds this position is required to :

  • Assist students with disabilities according to their individualized needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning
  • Assist students with physical care including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene
  • Assist in managing the behavior of students
  • Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students
  • Maintain confidentiality of information about children and their families in accordance with Board policy and law
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings and special events when requested by administration
  • Help supervise arrival and departure of students, and provide supervision and support in multiple settings throughout the school day
  • Follow instructions from teachers and administrators
  • The position is in a regular school setting that is noisy and active. Occassional outdoor activities are required such as loading and unloading students from district transportation and supervising recess.
