Green Tree School & Services in Philadelphia, PA is seeking a qualified Special Education Teacher to teach and mentor students. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play an integral role in the success of our students while overseeing the classroom team and dynamics. This is a full-time, ten-month position to provide general classroom instruction for students with Autistic Spectrum Disorders, serious Emotional Disturbance or Development Delays.

Primary Responsibilities
Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) : Lead the IEP process, including developing plans, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and preparing necessary paperwork to support student success.
Engaging Instruction : Design and deliver creative, tailored lesson plans that align with IEP goals, using a variety of teaching strategies to keep students engaged and motivated.
Classroom Leadership : Foster a positive, organized, and inclusive classroom environment while providing guidance and leadership to support staff.
Behavior Support : Implement behavior management strategies and non-violent crisis intervention techniques to ensure a safe and effective learning space.
Student Progress : Track and document student progress, including grades, behavior data, and other assessments, to inform instruction and drive goal achievement.
Collaboration : Work closely with families, team members, and school districts to ensure the best outcomes for each student.
Parent Communication : Partner with parents to encourage involvement and maintain open lines of communication.
Administrative Duties
Documentation : Submit lesson plans, IEPs, progress reports, and other required paperwork accurately and on time.
Meetings : Actively participate in IEP meetings, team discussions, and other required sessions to contribute to student development plans.
Safety Compliance : Adhere to safety protocols, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and maintain confidentiality in line with company policies and FERPA regulations.
Secondary Responsibilities
Support Services : Assist in implementing programs created by physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other specialists.
Field Trips and Activities : Supervise and support students during outdoor activities and school trips.
Environment Maintenance : Help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming classroom environment.
Professional Development : Participate in training sessions and supervision meetings to stay updated on best practices.
Additional Duties : Travel to other school locations as needed and complete other assigned tasks to support school operations.
Role Requirements
Education Requirements : Bachelor’s degree in special education, education, or a related field from an accredited institution.
Certification Requirements : Must hold an active Pennsylvania teaching certification, such as a Private Academic Certificate or Level I / II Pennsylvania Instructional Special Education Certification (K-12).
Alternative Qualification : Candidates with a bachelor’s degree and at least six credit hours in special education may be eligible for a Temporary Private Academic Certificate.
Work Authorization : Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
Crisis Intervention Skills : Ability to perform crisis intervention techniques, including verbal and physical redirection, to support students with challenging behaviors.
Mobility Requirements : Must be able to react quickly and provide physical redirection to ensure student safety in situations where students may be at risk of harming themselves or others.
Emergency Preparedness : Ability to physically assist students during emergency evacuations and other critical situations.
