Overview
Though 9 in 10 Latino young adults say that a college degree is important for success in life, fewer than 15% ages 25 or older hold a bachelor's degree. Voices College-Bound Language Academies exists to change that.
Voices is a public charter school network with a mission to prepare all students for the challenges of higher education through the context of an academically rigorous dual-immersion program. Every student, regardless of home language, graduates bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish.
Summary
Under the general direction of the Chief Innovation and Strategy Officer, the Director of Special Education coordinates the special ed program and delivery within the region, provides leadership to the special education team, principals and school sites.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy and Program Implementation :
- Assists the Voices Leadership team in management of the special education strategy, implementation, strategic plan and calendar in order to coordinate Special Education services at Voices.
- Facilitate the delivery of services among multiple external providers by researching, evaluation and selecting the highest-quality providers and acting as the liaison among external partners working with Voices Special Education Students.
- Assist in the development of evidence based practice to ensure the Voices Special Education program maintains high quality across all schools.
- Supervises Related Services Providers in order to ensure school sites are appropriately supported to implement services for students in special ed.
- Develops regional budgets that inform individualized school budgets based on school-specific population and needs.
- Ensure that reimbursements for specific populations such as low-incidence or mental health reports are completed on time.
- Oversees the professional development plan for special education across the organization, including within the team (related service providers, education specialists, Instructional and Behavioral aides.)
- Oversee the organization-wide professional development for special education
- Assists in facilitating completion of SELPA, pupil count reports and other state and federal reports.
- Coordinates local and state compliance reviews within schools related to special education.
- Ensures due process requirements are met to complete the appropriate development of IEPs and provides ongoing monitoring to ensure IDEA compliance.
- Support with Charter Renewal and Reauthorization.
- Applies conflict resolution strategies with parents or other stakeholders to resolve disputes related to a student's IEP, demonstrating knowledge of current IDEA and Voices policies and procedures.
- Collaborates with the talent team to ensure there is recruiting and hiring of strong staff members that are aligned to Voices mission and values.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
