We are searching for an education programming director to support and deepen existing education best practices at the intersection of the recording arts, other creative endeavors, and core content areas. Historically, our most powerful learning has unfolded through high level learning productions that center social justice and place young people in professional positions as project managers, creative directors, record producers, artist managers, artist and repertoire developers, content creators, and more. For example, as the first fully authorized Hip-Hop based education program in the world, our students have also run the world's longest student-powered record label in the world, Another Level Records. Through this student-run label, students can access paid internship opportunities and simultaneously earn credit in core content areas by producing and hosting their own radio show, creating podcasts, documentaries, albums, music videos, and more. In 2020, the student-produced documentary Rondo : Beyond the Pavement, told the story of the historically Black St. Paul neighborhood of Rondo and its destruction as a result of the development of highway I94. In 2011, our students took first place in the North American Junior Achievement Award for their student-run social enterprise. We are seeking someone who can sit at the nexus of arts education and core content instruction via project-based learning and learning productions in our historic institution. We seek someone unafraid of tackling real world problems with our students and staff to make the world a more just and livable place for Black and Brown youth in the Twin Cities and beyond.

In addition to deepening existing practices in this role, you will also develop new curricula across a range of disciplines. The education programming director must be committed to improving educational practices through collaboration with students, staff, and community members. You should be able to use new and existing resources to ensure student needs are met, and educational goals are achieved. You will authorize the acquisition of learning material and, on occasion, be tasked with producing organic educational materials unique to our institution.

To be successful as an education programming director, you should stay up-to-date with pedagogical theories and developments in education. An exceptional education programming director should have superb people skills and be confident in engaging individuals from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines. You should be energetic, passionate, and able to clearly communicate objectives.

Requirements :

Experience and Qualifications :

Masters Degree desired.

Degree in Curriculum Development , Education Leadership and or Teaching.

Teaching license or certification in curriculum development required.

Prior experience with Charter Schools, alternative schools, arts / technical and / or small schools development and programming.

Management experience in a non-profit organization desired

Prior experience as a school leader

Experience with project based / multidisciplinary methodology and practice

Experience in curriculum and Instruction

Experience working with over-aged, under-credited youth

Strong Human Relations and written communication skills

Knowledge of the effective operation of organizations and methods of resolving organizational conflicts

Skill in communication of policy and programs

Skill in working with a diverse student population, staff and school community

Has a belief that all students can achieve
