Speech Language Pathologist Assistant
An SLPA must complete an approved course of academic study, field work under the supervision of an ASHA-certified and/or licensed SLP, and on-the-job training specific to SLPA responsibilities and workplace behaviors.
- An Associate's Degree in an SLPA program
- A Bachelor's Degree in a speech-language pathology or communication disorders program
- Successful completion of a minimum of 100 hours of supervised field work experience or its clinical experience equivalent
- Demonstration of competency in the skills required of an SLPA
Reports To: Director of Special Education and Speech Language Pathologist
Supervises: N/A
Job Overview: The SLPA will assist the Speech Language Pathologists in caring for the needs of students on an IEP for speech services.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Adhere to the responsibilities for the SLPA's specified in this document and refrain from performing tasks or activities that are the sole responsibility of the SLP.
- Perform only the tasks prescribed by the supervising SLP
- Adhere to all applicable state licensure laws and rules regulating the practice of speech-language pathology, such as those requiring licensure or registration of support personnel.
- Conduct oneself ethically within the scope of practice and responsibilities for an SLPA.
- Actively participate with the SLP in the supervisory process.
- Assist with clerical duties as directed by the SLP.
- Perform checks and maintenance of equipment.
- Assist with departmental operations.
Terms Of Employment: 184 day contract
Work Environment: This position will require travel to multiple campuses and will be mostly in a classroom lab type setting.
Physical Requirements: Hear, speak, and interpret. Walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Sitting for long periods of time. Lift and move objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Read, write, and interpret written documents. Manipulate, handle, feel, and control items or equipment.
Evaluation: In accordance with Board Policy and appropriate procedural regulations. The Director of Special Services will be responsible for completing the evaluation.
Salary: In accordance with Board Policy and placement on the support salary schedule.
