JOB TITLE : Speech Language Pathologist
REPORTS TO : Lead Therapist
United Medical Rehabilitation Hospital, an inpatient rehabilitation facility in Gretna, Louisiana, is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SLP to provide high-quality, in-person therapy services. In this role, you will work with patients recovering from injuries, surgeries, and neurological conditions, helping them regain essential communication and swallowing abilities. JOB OVERVIEW : A qualified professional person who provides and directs Speech Therapy services to patients, including assessment, treatment, program planning and implementation, related documentation, communication and provides Speech Therapy services to patients as prescribed by the attending physician.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO :
a. Provides Speech Therapy services to patients and initiates referrals when appropriate in accordance with Speech Therapy Department procedures.
b. Conducts screening of patients at regular intervals to determine need for intervention / treatment.
c. Evaluates patients to obtain data necessary for treatment planning and implementation. Conducts specialized evaluations as indicated.
d. Interprets and communicates evaluation finding to patients, family and other team members.
e. Establishes individual patient schedules in conjunction with other team members.
f. Develops treatment plans by identifying a problem list, including short- and long-term goals and methods to achieve identified goals.
g. Coordinates treatment plan with patient, family and other team members.
h. Implements and conducts treatment as outlined in treatment plan.
i. Monitors patient's response to intervention and modifies treatment as indicated to attain goals in accordance with physician orders.
j. Develops appropriate home or community programming to maintain and enhance the performance of the patient in their own environment.
k. Documents the results of patient's assessment, treatment, follow-up and termination of services.
l. Recommends and obtains appropriate equipment to improve patient's communication.
m. Instructs patient, family and staff in use of augmentative communication devices.
n. Instructs patient, family and staff in appropriate speech-language procedures or home program to allow carry over of therapeutic remediation and goals in daily activities.
o. Participates in discharge planning.
p. Reviews the quality and appropriateness of the total services delivered and of individual speech therapy programs for effectiveness and efficiency, using predetermined criteria.
q. Participates in patient, family and staff education.
r. Confers formally and informally with other team members in coordinating the total rehabilitation program of the patient.
s. Adheres to Speech Therapy Department procedures regarding documentation of Speech Therapy services.
t. Provides in-service education to the members of the patient care team and education to the community.
u. Assumes responsibility for ongoing continuing education and professional development.
v. Records billable treatment times according to Speech Therapy Department procedures and productivity standards.
w. Provides treatment in accordance with established standards of practice, department procedures and productivity standards.
x. Maintains safe and clean work area and adheres to facility / company safety standards.
y. Complies with all Infection Control, Universal Precautions and OSHA standards for the healthcare professional.
z. Consistently demonstrates sound judgment in the evaluation, planning, implementation and follow-up of patient therapy programs.
aa. Maintains positive relationships and rapport with co-workers, patients, family members and facility personnel.
bb. Assists with and participates in Performance Improvement Program as required.
cc. Projects a positive and professional image at all times.
dd. Follows United Medical Hospitals' Corporate Compliance Code of Conduct as evidenced through practice, performance, and attendance of annual review programs / in-services.
ee. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the organization.
ff. All other duties as assigned.
Regulatory Requirements :
- Meets academic requirements as a Speech-Language Pathologist from an accredited program. Certificate of Clinical Competency or eligibility for Clinical Fellowship Year. Current Louisiana Speech-Language Pathologist Licensure. Current BCLS certification
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
