As a Speech Pathologist, you will perform clinical Speech Pathology test procedures and evaluate communication and swallowing function of patients. You will interpret and report test results to facilitate medical diagnosis, provide counseling and education to patients and their families, and determine therapeutic plans. A caregiver in this position works days from 8 : 00AM - 5 : 00PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will :
- Perform diagnostic speech pathology test procedures and evaluate communication and swallowing function of patients.
- Interpret and reports on test results to facilitate medical diagnosis.
- Provide counseling and education about communication and diagnosis to patients and their families.
- Determine therapeutic plan, including need for therapy, frequency of treatment, focus for intervention, prognosis and duration of therapy.
- Select assistive speech devices to improve patient communication.
- Perform re-evaluation to determine progress after therapy.
- Provide observations about hearing and other behavior to help determine the need for other services.
- Maintain records of all services.
- Communicate results and recommendations for improving communicative function to referral sources and outside agencies such schools and employers.
- Maintain speech pathology equipment and materials.
- Assist with planning, budget, service or project development, fee setting, purchase of new equipment or materials.
