Job description
  • Installs, modifies, inspects and tests all types of water-based fire suppression systems and associated equipment.
  • Fabricates, installs, modifies and repairs associated piping systems.
  • Installs and repairs flow control valves, fire pumps and sprinkler devices.
  • Performs all installation, maintenance and inspection in accordance with applicable standards and requirements of the National Fire Protection Association, Life Safety Code (Massachusetts State Building Code) and / or established compliance requirements of the Authority Having Jurisdiction.
  • Interprets and updates mechanical plans, drawings and prints as necessary.
  • Required to assist in the inspection and testing of other fire safety systems including fire alarms, extinguishers, fire escapes, and hydrants.
  • Provides responsive customer support in all phases of building maintenance and operations.
  • Assists and advises customers on fire suppression system solutions and provides follow-up on progress and status of work.
  • Performs other core skills of the trades and related duties as required.
  • May be assigned to work independently or as part of a multi-trade team under the guidance and direction of the Area Supervisor and / or Working Foreperson.
  • Must observe and comply with all standard safety codes and practices and perform work in accordance with recognized trade and University standards.
