State of IdahoMeridian, ID, United StatesDescriptionThis recruitment is being used to fill a second registered nurse manager position with Idaho State Police Forensic Services (ISPFS). The position is a statewide Idaho Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Trainer / Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) Coordinator. The individual selected for this position will provide training and education to health care professionals related to sexual assault forensic medical examinations. The individual selected will also coordinate statewide sexual assault response teams. The incumbent will report directly to the Forensic Services Laboratory System Director at Idaho State Police (ISP) headquarters in Meridian.Extensive in-state travel to deliver training and or perform SANE clinical hours is expected at the expense of ISP. Public speaking and presentations are required in this position. State police Forensic Laboratories serve state, local, and federal law enforcement agencies; state and county prosecutors; and public defenders. ISPFS SANE courses are approved by the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN). PLEASE NOTE : The successful applicant will be required to complete a background investigation and polygraph examination, which includes drug screening. - Develop, obtain approval of, facilitate, oversee / supervise, and present forensic education to healthcare providers and ancillary (physicians, physician assistants, advanced practice nurses, law enforcement, victim advocates, legislators, etc.) personnel as indicated.
- Function as resource for Idaho Sexual Assault Response Teams and Multi-disciplinary Teams addressing domestic violence, strangulation, sexual assault and other forms of violence in Idaho.
- Ensure forensic nursing compliance with national, state, and local standards through communication and publications.
- Function as a liaison with multiple organizations related to the provision of forensic care across Idaho.
- Facilitate effective communication among forensic providers and ancillary personnel using multiple communication methods / styles.
- Provide technical assistance to forensic healthcare providers and ancillary personnel regarding forensic nursing.
- Foster collaborative relationships with State Crime Lab personnel to ensure forensic nursing care meets lab requirements and standards.
- Obtain and maintain personal competence : certification, clinical practice, and continuing education.
- Collaborate with the Forensic Lab manager in the revision of the Idaho Sexual Assault Evidence Collection Kit (SAECK).
- Work with sites to develop or enhance SANE programs.
- Provide reports to ISPFS and other stakeholders regarding SANE / SART programs.
- Continuously work with ISPFS biology / DNA unit to identify training necessary at collection sites based on what is being sent to the lab for testing. Implement training in the areas identified.
- Assist in maintaining and updating the Idaho Sexual Assault Response Guidelines, ensuring national standards are implemented in Idaho protocols.
- Provide education to healthcare professionals and other disciplines regarding patient centered care, the effects of trauma on victims / patients, strangulation, and other topics as need arises.
- Network Idaho with other states and national organizations to improve forensic care and SAECK collection.
- Participate in long-term planning and policy development related to sexual assault issues in Idaho.
- Public speaking and presentations before government officials, healthcare administrators and staff, and other stakeholders.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
- Licensed as a Professional or Registered Nurse in Idaho as defined by Idaho Code 54-1408 or state licensure as a Registered Nurse pursuant to the Nurse Licensure Compact, Idaho Code 54-1418, in one of the following compact states : Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, or Wisconsin. - Good knowledge of supervisory practices. Typically gained by at least one year of supervisory experience that required providing work assignment, and direction and monitoring of staff with responsibility (or significant input) into the hiring of employees, preparing performance evaluations, and handling problem-solving procedures OR completion of courses or seminars (20 hours) that included all the essential elements of management.
- Experience assessing nursing practices for compliance with policies and procedures and recommending appropriate actions. Typically gained by approximately six months' experience in a supervisory role ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, licensure regulations or care standards. This may include chart audits, data collection, policy and procedure review, committee participation and / or infection control activities.
- Experience making oral presentations before groups in a business and / or professional setting. Typically gained through completion of college level speech classes, toastmasters, Dale Carnegie courses or three or more different business-related group presentations.SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION : You must attach a copy of your Registered Nurse License to the application. - Associate or Bachelor of Nursing Degree.
- Two years or more experience in areas of practice that require advanced physical assessment skills, such as emergency, critical care, or maternal child health.
- Training or experience as a Nurse Educator.
- Certification as a SANE-A or SANE-P. Experience in project management.
- Experience in administration or management at a hospital or clinic.
- Experience leading professional, public, or private boards or groups.
- Basic 40-hour SANE training.
