We are seeking Sterile Processing Technicians to support the New York Harbor Healthcare System (VA NYHHS) Manhattan Campus . This role is critical to patient safety ensuring that surgical instruments reusable medical devices (RMDs) and patient care equipment are properly cleaned sterilized and maintained .
Technicians will work in the Sterile Processing Service (SPS) department supporting operating rooms (ORs) medical / surgical clinics inpatient units dental services and other procedure areas . The ideal candidates will have experience working in a highvolume hospital or surgical setting and be proficient in decontamination sterilization and instrumentation processes.
Key Responsibilities :
- Decontaminate clean and sterilize surgical instruments trays and flexible endoscopes per manufacturer guidelines.
- Operate automated washers ultrasonic cleaners autoclaves and sterilization equipment .
- Follow AAMI ST79 ANSI VA Directive 1116 CDC guidelines and The Joint Commission (TJC) standards .
- Assemble and inspect instrument trays powered surgical tools and complex RMDs for defects.
- Perform biological testing chemical indicators and quality control measures .
- Maintain accurate documentation using systems like Censitrac eQMS and JPSR for incident reporting .
- Adhere to OSHA safety protocols infection control standards and highrisk protocols (HRPs) .
Schedule & Compensation :
Employee can work up to 60 days within 3 months or 120 days max in 6 months .
Employee Pay Breakdown :
Decontaminate, clean, and sterilize surgical instruments, trays, and flexible endoscopes per manufacturer guidelines. Education
Certifications : HSPA / IAHCSMM Certification (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) OR CBSPD Certification (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution) Experience : Minimum 1 year of sterile processing experience in a hospital or surgical setting preferred. Technical Proficiency : Experience operating steam sterilizers, low-temperature sterilization, ultrasonic cleaners, and automated washers. Familiarity with Censitrac tracking software, eQMS, and hospital documentation
