Our Guiding Principles:

  • Person Centered. We honor people's identities, lived experience and journeys and treat every person with the dignity we all deserve.
  • Exceptional Care. We offer compassionate, innovative services that meet people where they are, from immediate support to long-term recovery.
  • Integrity. We operate from a deep foundation of ethical, accountable practices in all we do.
  • Organizational Resilience. We meet the moment and adapt to changing contexts with collaborative creativity, agile business processes, and financial stewardship.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a Student Intern in ASL Interpretation to support our Language Services team. This internship provides a unique opportunity to apply classroom learning in a professional setting, gain exposure to mental health services, and develop interpreting skills in a trauma-informed and person-centered environment.

This role is designed for students currently enrolled in an ASL/English Interpreter Training Program who are seeking practicum or internship experience.

Team Specific Information: At WellPower, we believe everyone deserves care in the language they prefer to speak or sign. Our Language Services team includes full-time staff who are professionally trained and nationally certified in Spanish or ASL. We also subcontract with external providers to cover after-hours and other languages.

Compensation & Benefits:

This is a NON-PAID student intern opportunity

Duties & Functions:

  • ASL/English Interpretation: Provide ASL/English interpretation while working with another intern and/or staff interpreters for a variety of encounters that include, but are not limited to, classes and workshops about health and wellness, art, employment and technology as well as events like BINGO and yoga.
  • Learning & Development: Shadow professional interpreters, receive mentorship, and participate in supervision and feedback sessions to strengthen interpreting skills.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside teams in the Impact & Engagement department to foster a welcoming and supportive environment.
  • Professional Standards: Learn and adhere to the Code of Professional Conduct for interpreters, maintaining confidentiality and cultural sensitivity.
  • Participate in team/department meetings, in-service training, and supervisory sessions as required.
  • Maintain a trauma informed environment of wellbeing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an ASL/English Interpreter Training Program (associate or bachelor's level).
  • Advanced proficiency in ASL with coursework in interpretation completed or in progress.
  • Prior experience in community service, non-profit or healthcare settings is a plus but not required.

Internship Benefits

  • Mentorship and supervision from certified ASL interpreters.
  • Exposure to behavioral health and community-based service environments.
  • Opportunity to fulfill practicum/internship requirements for academic programs.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
  • Supportive environment that values your contributions and growth.

How to Apply

  • Submit your application: Fill out our online application form with your details and experience.
  • Interview & practice screening: Participate in an interview and interpretation practice session with WellPower staff interpreters.
