Position Summary
The College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) faculty, through advising, teaching, and supervising, offers students a balanced education of academic study, field placement, clinical experiences, and research opportunities. CHHS consists of the following schools : the School of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, the School of Nursing, the School of Social Work, the School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences, and the School of Public Health.
Under the direction of the College of Health and Human Services Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, the Student Services Advisor will provide high quality, accessible and consistent advising services to both lower and upper division undergraduate students primarily in the School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences, but as needed across the college's five schools.
The Student Services Advisor facilitates the successful recruitment, admission, transition, retention, progression and graduation of students. Undergraduates include both traditional students admitted as first-time freshmen, as well as transfer students. The Student Services Advisor is accountable for advising prospective first-time freshmen and transfers, and continuing SDSU students on complex issues. The Student Services Advisor provides advisement via individual counseling sessions, group sessions, and workshops; assists students in the development of education plans; helps students to acquire relevant information and support services; interprets and explains policies; assists with course selection; explains and clarifies educational goals; and develops academic programming in collaboration with various campus departments and entities. The Student Services Advisor is responsible for mediating and resolving complex student issues and providing referrals to appropriate campus resources.

Full-time, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday-Friday, 8 : 00 a.m. to 4 : 30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
This position is physically located at the SDSU Main Campus in San Diego.
Education and Experience
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown below may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Possession of the required knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A Master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree
Experience providing outreach services to students, specifically first-generation college students.
Familiar with CSU and SDSU general education and graduation requirements.
Specialized Skills
Minimum of two years experience as an academic advisor at a college or university.
Experience working with diverse student populations.
Demonstrated experience presenting information to a group.
Demonstrated experience analyzing data to determine trends related to retention and graduation rates.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,304 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range : $4,304 - $6,120 per month.
SDSU Vaccine Policy
In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. An individual is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose of a two-shot vaccine or two weeks after the first dose of a single-shot vaccine. Afterward a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated.
The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university's secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU's COVID-19 testing program.
