Position Summary
Under general supervision of the Dean of Arts & Humanities, the Shop Assistant (or Art Studio Assistant) will assist faculty during 3-D Design and Sculpture courses by instructing and overseeing students in the safe and proper use of woodworking and metalworking equipment. This also includes overseeing one open lab day per week. This position will also maintain 3-D Studio spaces and equipment. This includes keeping the studio clean and organizing course materials and maintaining hand and power tools.
This is part-time (24 hours per week) 10-month cyclical permanent position.
Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule
Position Salary Range : $2,137.80 / month - $2,845.80 / month
The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Individuals newly hired to Classified position are placed in a salary range based on the WPEA Collective Bargaining Agreement. This is a 10-month cyclical position and actual annual wage will be prorated during cyclical period.
We offer comprehensive compensation package with salary and benefits as the main components. Competitive salary is within the Range stated above, and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The employee is scheduled to work 24 hours per workweek. This is a Classified, overtime eligible position and represented by the Washington Public Employee Association of Higher Education (WPEA-HE).

About the Department
Arts & Humanities, the largest division at Bellevue College, welcomes students with various educational goals. Most are enrolled in academic transfer courses such as Art, Communication Studies, English, Music, Philosophy, Theatre Arts, and World Languages. Other programs focus on international students (English Language Institute) or adults taking pre-college courses to learn English, earn their GED, complete High School credentials, or transition to college-level courses (Basic and Transitional Studies). The division also includes a Professional Technical program (Interior Design), which serves students seeking an Associate's degree or a Bachelor of Applied Arts. Each program in Arts & Humanities seeks to empower students by cultivating inclusive learning environments that engage diverse traditions; stimulating intellectual and imaginative curiosity; and developing the habits of mind necessary for critical and creative thinking.
Essential Functions
Assist faculty as needed during 3-D Design and Sculpture courses
- Training students in the safe use of studio equipment both alongside faculty and independently.
- Overseeing students in the safe and proper use of woodworking and metalworking equipment.
- Assisting students in building projects using a wide range of materials and processes as needed.
- Independently overseeing one student work day per week.
