Commissioning Engineers

Job Summary :

We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Substation Technician to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical substation equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the reliable operation of high-voltage electrical systems, including transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, and protection systems. This position requires hands-on experience with electrical maintenance and a thorough understanding of safety protocols in high-voltage environments.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Installation & Setup :
  • Install new electrical equipment such as transformers, breakers, switches, and control systems.
  • Assist with the setup and commissioning of newly constructed or upgraded substations.
  • Inspection & Maintenance :
  • Conduct routine inspections, maintenance, and testing of substation equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, and protection relays.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubricating, and calibrating equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Monitor electrical systems for any signs of malfunction or degradation and perform diagnostic tests.
  • Repairs & Troubleshooting :
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems and components to diagnose faults or failures.
  • Repair or replace damaged or faulty equipment, including high-voltage systems and control circuits.
  • Test repaired equipment to ensure it is functioning properly and safely.
  • Safety Compliance :
  • Adhere to strict safety procedures and protocols when working with high-voltage equipment and during all on-site activities.
  • Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all company safety guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical codes, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Emergency Response :
  • Respond to emergency situations, such as outages or equipment failures, to restore service in a timely manner.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members and departments to troubleshoot and resolve urgent issues.
  • Documentation & Reporting :
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and equipment performance.
  • Document test results and recommend corrective actions for any issues identified during maintenance.
  • Assist in preparing reports for regulatory compliance and safety audits.
  • Continuous Improvement :
  • Participate in ongoing training and development programs to stay updated on new technologies and industry best practices.
  • Contribute to the development of maintenance schedules and improve operational efficiency.

Required Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field preferred).
  • Certification in electrical work or a related discipline is a plus (e.g., Journeyman Electrician).
  • Proven experience (typically 2+ years) in substation maintenance, electrical systems, or power distribution.
  • Strong understanding of high-voltage electrical equipment and systems, including transformers, circuit breakers, relays, and switchgear.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety standards, including lockout / tagout procedures and arc flash safety.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex electrical systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety.
