Job description

Position : Quality  Engineer

Department : Quality

Reporting to : Quality Manager

Classification : Exempt

Location : Goose Creek, SC

Salary : $80,000-$100,000 (+Bonus opportunities)

Main scope and objectives of role

To liaise with Customers, act as the key interface between the customer and the plant for raised quality concerns, incidents and developing of effective relationships with our customers and suppliers while continually ensuring performance improvements both internally and at suppliers. Manage subcontractors, suppliers and internal production teams in relation to PFMEA, control plans and process controls. Completion of internal and external problem solving using industry standard techniques including 8D, Ishikawa and 5Why to ensure the highest standard of automotive finished product is delivered to the Customer. Work to the leading world class manufacturing Vision, Mission and Goals of the company.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Experience and knowledge required for the role

  • IATF working experience (Essential)
  • Automotive experience (Desirable)
  • Precision machining experience (Desirable)
  • Minimum two years experience as a Quality engineer (Essential)
  • Quoting and purchasing of Quality gages and equipment (Desirable)
  • Able to determine gaging requirements from blueprints (Essential)
  • Understanding of GDT and print reading (Essential)
  • CMM experience (Essential)

Role specific requirements :

  • Working Knowledge of IATF 16949 (Essential)
  • Working Knowledge of SPC, trials, audits, APQP, ISIR, 8D problem solving (Essential)
  • World Class lean Manufacturing Tools 5s, SMED. Hoshin, Kanban etc. (Desirable)
  • Full and working understanding of root cause analysis (Essential)
  • Education, training and qualifications
  • Degree in Engineering(Desirable)
  • IATF Auditor (Desirable)
  • APQP trained (Desirable)
  • CMM programming (preferably Mitutoyo) (Desirable)
  • Overview of responsibilities

  • To manage all internal / external Customer concerns from initial containment, effective countermeasure, preventative measures and final close out by establishing cross functional 8D teams.
  • Manage all Customer containment internal and external activity including safe disposition and analysis of defects found and communication to the Customer via Customer portals and Reporting Method i.e.8D and 7 Step and alerting Customers to safe stock via correct paperwork.
  • Act as a champion for departmental understanding and compliance with the requirements of IATF.
  • Manage the internal layered audit process for completion and thoroughness.
  • Ensure IATF 1649 compliance at all times and manage changes and challenge where necessary to ensure compliance.
  • Analyzing quality data collected from shift audits in order to identify continuous improvement and make necessary adjustments within the audit process; work with other functions to identify and drive continuous improvements,
  • Maintain and develop Quality Visual Standards in line with Customer Expectations
  • Customer PPAP approval
  • Coordinate quality requirements for new programs, product changes, and IATF 16949 element adherence as required.
  • Act as investigation leader or member when required for Corrective and Preventive Action for Customer, Supplier and Production
  • Development of Control Plan and PFMEA for new products. Ensure Control Plan complies with Quality, Environmental, and Material Management System requirements.
  • Follows all company policies and reports all unsafe and unhealthy conditions.
  • Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner and complies with all Health, Safety and Environmental standards.
  • Responsible for conducting capability studies, collecting variable data, input of data in computer software, and able to interpret results.
  • Ensure that proper work-instructions exist for all processes; audit for compliance.
  • Open Corrective Action Reports, develop root cause and drive to zero defects
  • Ensure that correct gages and fixtures are in place, tested to AIAG MSA requirements and exist in the work place
  • Support where relevant with suppliers defects & Supplier PPAP approval
  • Communicate in a professional manner with customers and suppliers as necessary
  • Must be able to conduct audits at the Suppliers location and internally as required
  • Support internal audit schedule and conduct audits for IATF16949, Layered Process, Product and Cell Audits
  • Maintain quality concern log including timely closure
  • Monitor SPC and analysis to ensure process control maintained
  • Maintain assigned Quality KPIs
  • Maintain high levels of housekeeping at all times
  • Monitor and report Supplier Performance
  • Keep the Quality Manager and other interested parties informed of quality related issues and
  • quality trends.

  • Management System (QMS) and follow the Change Management System (CMS) process.
