Job description

American Engineering is currently looking for a Land Surveyor to work with our survey division located in Chesapeake, Virginia. Successful candidates will work primarily in the field with a 2 or 3-person field crew.

Primary duties may include but are not limited to completing field surveys by collecting data using GPS equipment, Robotic Total Station or other conventional surveying equipment.

Responsibilities

  • LEARN from surveyors and party chiefs with decades of experience
  • TECHNOLOGY - Operate survey equipment such as, but not limited to, total stations, levels, GPS, and data collectors in a proficient manner to define surface features and collect pertinent data.
  • ADVANCE through opportunities with a survey operation which has operated in Hampton Roads for 50 years.
  • Perform adjustment and calibration of survey instruments and operate total stations, data collectors, and GPS equipment
  • Ensure maintenance of the survey vehicles and equipment
  • Assist in hands-on field activities as needed to identify benchmarks or clear areas for data gathering.

Duties may also include the following :

  • Drive stakes to set grades on construction projects, search for property corners and survey control points.
  • Regularly walk, stand, crouch or stoop. Carry equipment up, down and across irregular terrain. Walk over rough, uneven or slippery surfaces.
  • Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Virginia resident
  • Ability to work extended hours including Saturdays and ability for potential travel out of town, possibly for a week at a time.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Previous surveying experience highly preferred
