The Job

A brand NEW experience opened at the iconic FAO Schwarz flagship in late 2024 - the FAO.abulous Boutique, which features customized makeup palettes and makeovers to get your little one ready for a night out on the town! The Makeup Artist is responsible for providing personalized beauty services to our guests, ensuring they receive care and attention while creating a memorable experience.

We are looking for an energetic and experienced makeup artist with a passion for working with children to offer a world-class guest experience in the heart of NYC. This is a part-time position with scheduling needs across mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

What You'll Do

Guest

Use the FAO Schwarz selling vision to effectively engage and delight each guest.

Build authentic connections with guests to build rapport and relationships during their visit.

Demonstrate product knowledge by introducing key items to guests based on your understanding of their needs.

Provide professional makeup services, including consultations, application, and lessons, tips, or tricks.

Educate customers on product usage and application methods.

Stay updated on current makeup trends and product innovations.

Handle customer inquiries and complaints professionally and effectively.

Uphold the brand image and maintain a positive attitude.

Assist customers in selecting products that best suit their needs and preferences.

Ask open-ended questions, listen to customer needs, and provide an interactive experience by offering product recommendations

Be able to adapt your style to engage both children and adults as they visit us in the store.

Demonstrate great selling techniques to meet or exceed sales goals and KPIs.

Be the expert in your area and ensure all information provided is accurate.

Team

Make recommendations to evolve and innovate the experience to excite our guests.

Share expertise with colleagues to help elevate experiences for our guests.

Maintain a positive, enthusiastic, helpful and professional attitude with your fellow team members

Work in a supportive, team atmosphere focused on creating an exceptional guest experience

Foster an atmosphere of open and positive communication, professionalism and creativity at all times

Maintain high standards of timekeeping on counter to ensure team efficiency

Store

Complete weekly assigned administrative tasks to ensure all experience supplies are available to fulfill guest orders.

Escalate any maintenance issues that may prevent delivering the experience as planned.

Maintain good understanding of store layout and local area to be able to effectively and accurately handle guest queries.

Handle POS transactions, adhering to policies and procedures to accurately process each transaction for the guest.

Demonstrate an understanding of basic merchandising principles in order to maintain the floor layout and planograms on a daily basis.

Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work area

Ensure all tools and equipment are sanitized and in good working condition.

Ensure that the store is 'customer ready' from open to close of business and support the upkeep throughout the day

Maintain excellent store hygiene standards. Clean display units, brushes, tools and testers, etc. throughout the day and restock the makeup stations and display after each use

Assist with maintaining the required inventory to include stock counts and timely replenishments

Maintain the store visual standards and policies at all times

What You Have

1+ year experience in a fast-paced premium retail or experience-based environment preferred.

Prior experience in providing professional makeup application and exceptional guest service.

License to administer makeup services in NYC preferred.

Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to influence in a clear and concise manner.

Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

A love of the FAO brand.

An engaging and theatrical personality that can delight our guests.

Flexible availability in line with a Flagship Retail environment across days, evenings and weekends.

Capable of lifting up to 25 pounds, and bending, twisting, and standing for long periods of time in all types of weather
