Job Summary
The Corporate Tax Department is responsible for the global taxes of the Company. The State and Local Tax Accountant utilizes appropriate accounting theory and principles to analyze data and recommend the resulting tax treatment while understanding impact to the business. The role researches, analyzes, and utilizes applicable tax information to prepare state and local tax returns and provision calculations. Additionally, the Tax Accountant works with internal and external business partners to support company initiatives and requests (e.g. audit requests, SOX requests, transaction planning, etc.). This role touches all aspects of the tax lifecycle and is heavily weighted in state and local tax compliance and tax provisions.
Essential Job Functions :
Tax Compliance - Perform analysis of various general ledger accounts to obtain information necessary to prepare state and local tax returns, extensions, and estimates. Compute state income tax differences, apportionment and prepare supporting workpapers. May include complex state tax returns and estimates, including consolidations. Responsible for uploading trial balance and tax adjustments into tax software. Demonstrate working knowledge of tax concepts and principles. Display strong analytical skills. Ability to develop conclusions founded on reason, logic, and interpretation. Ability to develop relationships with internal and external business partners for data and information gathering.
Tax Accounting - Prepare monthly tax provision and quarterly deferred calculations. May include preparation of complex quarterly and annual tax provisions. Prepare monthly general ledger tax account reconciliations. Prepare uncertain tax position workpapers and memos. Demonstrate working knowledge of accounting theory and principles.
Audit Support - Research and prepare responses to state and local information requests. Assist with responses to SOX / financial audit requests. Respond to tax notices.
Project Management - Support planning projects. Monitor due dates to ensure timely completion of tasks. Ability to determine priorities and meet critical deadlines. Detect issues and develop an approach to resolve issues. Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills. Ability to work with a team, take general directions from several sources, focus attention on details and complete projects.
Systems / Technology - Be a champion for the technology and process improvement culture. Look for opportunities to build automation and other efficiencies into tax processes. Upload and review accounting information in tax software. Integrate Excel and tax software. Apply technology and tax rules to complicated calculations with large amounts of data.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements :
This position is hybrid with an onsite schedule of 4 - 5 days per month.
In-office requirements are subject to change based on business needs.
This position is currently available to candidates that reside within 60 miles of Columbus, OH.
Hybrid role, work in corporate office as required.
Limited travel may be required.
Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent, relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications :
1+ years tax experience in a corporate or public accounting setting.
Experience with ONESOURCE software applications

Typical Starting Range :
55,200.00 - $100,000.00
Full Salary Range for position :
California : $63,500.00 - $125,000.00Colorado : $55,200.00 - $105,000.00New York : $60,700.00 - $125,000.00Washington : $58,000.00 - $115,000.00
Bread Financial offers medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, and other voluntary benefits (including basic and optional life insurance, supplemental medical plans, and short and long-term disability) to eligible associates (regular full-time associates scheduled to work 30 hours per week or more) and their spouses / domestic partners, and child(ren) under the age of 26. New associate elected coverage begins on date of hire (with the exception of disability coverage which has a 6-month waiting period). Six weeks of 100% paid parental leave for eligible parents is available after a 180-day waiting period. Hired associates can immediately enroll in Bread Financial’s 401(k) plan.
All associates receive 11 paid holidays. Associates have discretion in managing their time away from work through the Flexible Time Off (FTO) program and may need to notify and receive approval from their manager prior to taking the time off. Associates (except those located in Illinois) receive 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time (“PSST”) upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois associates receive 40 hours of Illinois PSST upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year and 40 hours of Illinois Paid Leave upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois Paid Leave must be used before associates in Illinois will be approved to take FTO.
Hired associates will be able to elect the purchase company stock during offering periods in June and December. You will be eligible for an annual incentive bonus based on individual and company performance.
