A well-established Louisville accounting and advisory firm is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join its team. This is an opportunity for a tax professional who wants more than simply preparing returns- you’ll serve as a trusted advisor to clients, provide strategic tax guidance, and help lead the firm’s tax practice.
The ideal candidate is technically strong, client-focused, and comfortable taking ownership of complex tax engagements. You’ll work with a diverse client base and have the opportunity to provide meaningful guidance across tax planning, compliance, and broader financial matters.
Manage tax engagements from planning through completion, ensuring work is accurate, timely, and compliant with applicable regulations.
Prepare and/or review complex federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals and business entities.
Provide proactive tax planning and advisory services tailored to individual client circumstances.
Research and resolve complex tax issues and communicate recommendations clearly to clients.
Serve as a trusted point of contact for clients, developing strong and lasting professional relationships.
Identify opportunities to minimize tax liabilities while maintaining compliance with applicable tax laws.
Oversee tax deadlines, extensions, estimated payments, and other required filings.
Respond to IRS and state tax notices and assist with examinations and other tax matters.
Review work prepared by other members of the tax team and provide guidance to ensure quality and accuracy.
Mentor and develop staff members, helping strengthen the team's technical capabilities.
Stay current on changes to tax legislation, regulations, and industry developments.
Participate in client meetings and contribute to broader accounting and financial planning discussions.
Help identify opportunities to improve tax processes, efficiency, and client service.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
5+ years of progressive tax experience.
CPA license strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of federal and state taxation.
Experience preparing and reviewing individual and business tax returns.
Experience with complex tax planning and research.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Ability to manage multiple client engagements and competing deadlines.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
Experience mentoring, supervising, or reviewing the work of accounting professionals.
Proficiency with tax preparation and accounting software.
You’re someone who can confidently navigate complicated tax matters while still making clients feel like they have a trusted advisor in their corner.
You take ownership of your work, communicate well, and enjoy solving problems rather than simply checking boxes. You’re comfortable working independently but also enjoy helping develop the people around you.
