Tax Help Colorado helps low- and middle-income families Coloradans to file accurate tax returns and receive every deduction and credit they are owed-often to the tune of thousands of dollars that can be used to reach their personal and family goals through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The tax preparer plays an integral role in implementing the Tax Help Colorado program and effectively supports and operates free tax preparation sites across the state of Colorado. With a strong focus on providing excellent customer service to create a trustworthy environment for the client, this position offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the community by supporting clients with tax assistance. Essential ResponsibilitiesComplete all required training and IRS certificationsEnsure accurate tax preparation and quality review of tax returnsProvide administrative support at tax preparation sites in the communityFollow the Internal Revenue Service's VITA quality site requirementsCollaborate with team members to ensure timely and accurate service deliveryProvide exceptional customer serviceBuild relationships and work effectively with donors, volunteers, clients, and community partnersWhat You'll Need: Education, Experience, and SkillsExcellent communication and client service skills, including attentive listening, calmness under pressure, and de-escalationExperience working in a fast-paced environment Demonstrated passion for helping low-income individuals and families meet their needs and build assetsStrong organizational skills, including time management and attention to detailExperience with concepts of trauma-informed practice, de-escalation, and community engagementProficiency with Windows computers and web-based software applicationsTraining and Certification Requirements:All tax preparers are required to complete a short tax preparation course during the onboarding period to prepare tax returns with Tax Help Colorado. Successful completion of all certifications below is a requirement of employment:Volunteer Standards of ConductIntake/Interview and Quality ReviewAdvanced TaxSite CoordinatorWorking Environment: 100% in-person at tax preparation sites throughout Metro Denver. 20 hours per week, hours varying based on business needs between Tuesday and Saturday, 9:00 am to 8:00 pmPhysical Activities: May be required to lift up to 20lbs.
