The overall responsibility of the Driver I position is to operate a Father Joe’s Villages company truck / vehicle to pick up and deliver donations from residences, stores, businesses, and warehouses. The Driver I also assist fellow drivers with loading and unloading products, maintaining a safe work environment, and providing excellent customer service to donors, clients, and customers. This position interacts with a diverse community of coworkers and the public while maintaining a professional demeanor, a high standard of integrity, and the positive mission-driven reputation of Father Joe’s Villages.
Essential Functions
Safety – Truck drivers are responsible for the safety of everyone in and around their vehicle, including other drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and passengers. This includes following the rules of the road and performing daily maintenance, such as refueling and cleaning. Follows all safety procedures and policies and reports any safety concerns immediately
Route Planning —The driver operates navigational tools (Teletrac / GPS) and follows written and verbal geographic directions. The driver also routes efficiently to meet delivery schedules.
Documentation —Maintains records such as Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports, Route Sheets, Meal Records, Accident Reports, and work hour logs.
Loading and Unloading —Drivers load and unload goods while ensuring the cargo, including equipment, is properly stacked and secured. Drivers must also treat donations and company property with respect and care.
Communication —Provides excellent customer service to donors and vendors and maintains clear communication with Dispatch, including calling at designated times to report meals, occupancy, and time frames.
Assist in the warehouse when needed.
Must have open availability and be able to work any day and may be required to work flex hours to support all business areas.
Performs other miscellaneous duties as directed or assigned.
Qualifications
A high school degree or GED.
Must be at least 21 years old and have a minimum of 3 years of driving experience . The applicant must possess a valid California Class C driver’s license and have no Class 1 or more than two Class 2 violations within the past 36 months.
Able to operate a hand truck, lift gate, and pallet jack.
Basic computer skills are a must, and the ability to operate a GPS tracking system is preferred.
Participate in an annual Tuberculosis and / or other screenings when necessary. Reasonable accommodations may be granted where appropriate.
