  • Adapt and support access to general education curriculum; co-teach or provide push-in/pull-out services as appropriate.
  • Ensure maintenance and functionality of assistive devices (e.g., hearing aids, FM systems), and train both staff and students in their use.
  • Provide training and in-service sessions to staff, students, and families in areas including Deaf awareness, Deaf culture, communication strategies, and inclusive practices.
  • Teach self-advocacy, independence, and daily living skills as necessary, especially for transition-aged students.
  • Monitor, document, and report on student progress both academically and behaviorally; adjust support as needed.
  • Serve as an advocate and informational resource for the broader school community in supporting D/HH students.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of hearing impairments, communication development strategies, and special education laws.
  • Experience with assistive technology and ability to support its use effectively in educational settings.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills, with flexibility to travel between multiple school sites during the school year.
  • Preferred: familiarity with American Sign Language (ASL) and total communication philosophies.

  • The employee may be required to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally assist students with mobility or transfers.
  • Vision and hearing abilities must be sufficient to observe student behavior, read printed materials and digital screens, and communicate effectively.
  • The employee must be able to maintain visual and auditory attention to ensure student safety and engagement throughout the school day.
  • Work is typically performed in a school environment with moderate noise levels and frequent movement between classrooms or buildings.
