As the University's largest and most varied academic unit, the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) is comprised of artists, learners, performers, scholars, scientists, and teachers across 21+ departments, programs, schools, and centers and acts as a central hub where many of the University's disciplines intersect. Nearly all 6,000 undergraduates at the University take liberal arts courses with us, and about one-third of these students declare a first major in a CAHSS program. Most of our departments, programs and schools offer masters or doctoral programs. CAHSS scholars, artists, instructors, staff, and students collaborate in a shared quest for knowledge about the human condition and the development of skills to improve our local and global communities. The diverse scope of CAHSS allows our students to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed at nearly any career in today's global society.
The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures offers a B.A. with concentrations in Chinese, French & Francophone Studies, German, Italian, Japanese and Russian. DUs undergraduate German program blends language learning with intercultural exploration and personal growth. Our newly designed curriculum offers students the opportunity to explore diverse topics from interdisciplinary perspectives, empowering them to develop linguistic and intercultural competencies as well as social justice and empathy skills.
Position Summary
The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures invites applications for a one year, full-time (non-tenure track) Visiting Teaching Assistant Professor of German who will start on September 1, 2025. We seek a dynamic, empathetic educator with experience in teaching intermediate and advanced German language classes as well as upper-level, content-based courses in German. The successful candidate will teach eight (8) courses over three academic quarters, with all courses taught in person. We especially welcome candidates with a commitment to inclusive pedagogies and interest in interdisciplinary and diversifying approaches to German Studies.
Essential Functions
- Teaching eight (8) in-person intermediate / advanced language and upper-level, content-based courses
- Mentoring and supporting students, including by holding weekly office hours
- Mentoring student distinction projects or independent studies
- Promoting the German program and actively supporting further growth of the program

Work Schedule
While the University's administrative offices are open Monday - Friday, 8 : 00 am - 4 : 30 pm, faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught, service commitments, and research agendas. The University's academic calendars are posted on the registrar's website (the law school is on a semester system and has a different academic calendar)

The salary grade for this position is UC.
Salary Rate :
The salary rate for this position is $50,000.
