Are You the Missing Piece?
This mission-driven, independent media organization is redefining what it means to deliver independent journalism across TV, radio, web, mobile, and streaming platforms. With a global audience, a loyal fan base, and a newsroom that never sleeps, they’re building the technical backbone to power bold storytelling and help save democracy—and they need a visionary to lead the charge.
That’s where you come in : They’re on the hunt for a Director of Technology to oversee and evolve every piece of their tech ecosystem—from live broadcast systems to enterprise IT infrastructure to digital products and app development. This role is the nerve center of their tech strategy, and it’s one of the most critical leadership positions on the team. It requires a balance of technical expertise, leadership, and project management skills to oversee a diverse team of systems administrators, archivists, and developers. It’s ideal for a dynamic technical leader who can bridge the gap between broadcast technology and modern software development while driving innovation in a mission-driven environment.
You won’t just be maintaining systems—you’ll be future-proofing infrastructure, managing capital projects, and mentoring a high-performing team. You’ll work across departments to ensure every broadcast, every podcast drop, and every livestream happens without a hitch—and that every piece of public-facing tech is scalable, stable, and secure.
With a powerful mission, a team that cares deeply about the work, and a product that reaches millions, this organization is ready to invest in someone who can lead with heart, precision, and purpose. Think you’re up for it? Yes, you are. Keep reading.
What’s it going to take to score an interview?
- You’ve got 5+ years of technology leadership experience, with a proven track record of managing cross-functional teams, complex systems, and critical projects, preferably in a non-profit and / or mission-driven environment.
- You’ve worked in broadcast, software development, or systems administration —and ideally, you’ve done a little of each.
- You’re fluent in the language of uptime, signal integrity, and disaster recovery, and have overseen 24 / 7 production environments without breaking a sweat.
- You bring technical fluency in Linux, networking, cloud resources, audio / video over IP, and platforms like VizRT, FORK, Puppet, React Native, Ruby on Rails, and more.
- You’re a confident budget owner and project manager who can scope, staff, and deliver capital projects from idea to execution.
- You’re equally at home with software engineers and C-Suite leaders —you’re able to explain complex systems to non-technical stakeholders in clear, compelling language.
- Most importantly, you believe in independent media and want to put your tech leadership to work in the service of journalism that informs, challenges, and inspires.
You should take this meeting because …
… you want to lead a technology team that powers journalism with real-world impact. You want to work somewhere where innovation isn’t about flash—it’s about functionality, accessibility, and trust. You’ll be joining a collaborative, mission-oriented culture that values transparency, technical excellence, and long-term thinking.
There’s room to grow, real leadership to step into, and work that you’ll be proud of. You’ll help build the systems that make vital, independent journalism possible—and that’s no small thing.
Ready to lead the tech strategy that fuels a global media mission and helps save democracy? Let’s talk.
