As the Terminal Manager, at the direction of the VP of Operations, you'll accomplish Special Projects throughout the entire Regional Structure. You'll direct, manage and control and coordinate all local, OO, regional and appropriate over-the-road trucking operations to ensure the availability of vehicles, equipment and drivers when and where needed to totally satisfy customer requirements. You'll enforce and maintain policies, procedures, practices with respect to efficient, fast and safe operations of fleet assets. You'll ensure compliance with all applicable local state and federal laws, regulations and directives governing inspection, licensing, insuring and operation of motor vehicles and equipment. You'll oversee all terminal functions that include property, yard, operations, terminal fuel purchases, OS&D, rate quotations (in conjunction with corporate approval), driver expense reports, short haul operations, interface with the line haul operations, vehicle and equipment maintenance functions and the absolute assurance of stated levels of service to core customers, responsible for account development, visitation and problem solving as necessary to achieve and exceed articulated expectations of customers. You'll be totally responsible for maintaining strong professional relationships with customers and representatives of the community and government agencies.
Duties & Responsibilities :
Quickly assess the entire situation when engaging in the problem-solving process. Identifies the root cause of the problem(s), viable solutions and the superior solution that best solves the problem for the company.
Insures complete training of all appropriate human resources. To be used in the problem-solving process and newly formulated on-going practices, policies and procedures.
Writes and End of Project report to VP of Operations. Included in the report are an action plan with appropriate resource tasking and a milestone chart showing start dates tasking. Monitors progress as well.
Travels as required to fulfill the requirements of the responsibility.
Recruit, train, and supervise terminal staff, including warehouse workers, forklift operators, and administrative personnel. Assign tasks, set performance goals, and provide guidance to maximize productivity and maintain a motivated workforce.
Directs, manages, controls and coordinates all local, regional OO and appropriate over-the-road trucking operations to ensure the availability of vehicles, equipment and drivers when and where needed to totally satisfy customer requirements.
Must work with each Driver Manager and driver to achieve optimal business results in customer service, utilization, productivity, deadhead reduction, driver compensation, key operating costs, and appropriate home times.
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations within the terminal. Implement and enforce safety policies, conduct regular inspections, and address any issues or concerns promptly. Stay updated on relevant legal requirements and industry best practices.
Develop and implement inventory control procedures to monitor stock levels, track item movement, and minimize discrepancies or losses. Coordinate with procurement and sales teams to optimize inventory levels and ensure accurate record-keeping.
Collaborate with customer service teams to meet client requirements and address any logistics related concerns or inquiries. Maintain effective communication channels to provide timely updates on shipments, delivery schedules, and any potential delays or issues.
Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess terminal performance and identify areas for improvement. Develop strategies and implement process enhancements to optimize efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.
Requirements :
- 2+ years of experience in terminal management with progressively increasing responsibilities, specifically within the trucking industry
5+ years of experience using transportation management systems or other relevant software for inventory tracking and reporting.
Analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify operational inefficiencies and implement appropriate solutions.
Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in a warehouse or terminal setting.
Education :
High school diploma or GED certificate
Bachelors Degree in Logistics, Transportation, Business or Project Management or equivalent management level experience in these disciplines. Additional studies in effective problem solving, warehousing and support activities, technological applications to logistics and building effective reciprocal relationships are most helpful.
Certifications :
Valid driver's license (CDL a plus)
