Description
The Musical Theater Assistant Counselor is a seasonal position that reports to the Musical Theater Head Counselor. This program will run from June 23-August 1, 2025 (no camp on July 4) and the expected hours of work are 8 : 30 am-3 : 30 pm, Monday-Friday. Pre-camp staff training, lesson planning, classroom setup will take place the week of June 16 (no camp June 19 and 20) with mandatory all staff training scheduled for June 10. Session 1 performance is scheduled for Thursday, July 10 and session 2 is scheduled for Tuesday, July 28; both starting at 6 : 00 pm. Assistant counselors are required to stay until the conclusion of the show on both days.
The Assistant Counselor is an integral part of the summer camp staff and is responsible for supporting the Head Counselor in ensuring that the summer camp is a safe, fun and enriching experience for the campers.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Assisting the Director of Musical Theater Program in executing daily activities including rehearsals, workshops and other activities related to musical theater production. Engaging with campers during rehearsals, helping them develop their performance skills and confidence on stage.
- Actively participate in all camp activities to help build relationships with campers.
- Supervise campers at all times, including lunch and recess time prioritizing their well being and safety.
- Commit to staying after hours on days of actual shows to ensure smooth rehearsals and performances.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures established by Summer@Potomac.
- Assist in cleaning, maintaining and ensuring proper use of Summer@Potomac facilities and equipment.
- Use positive and proactive techniques to resolve any camper behavioral issues. Effectively communicate such issues to the Musical Theater Director.
- Assist in morning arrival and afternoon dismissal of campers.
- Participate in staff orientations, pre-camp staff training, preparations for camp opening and meetings.
- Adhere to the procedures and policies outlined in The Summer@Potomac Staff Handbook.
- Participate in both morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
