Assistant Professor, Educator

Appointment : 9-month

Non-Tenure (Educator) track

Job Overview

The role of an educator professor encompasses teaching (85-90%), service (5-10%), and scholarship (5-10%). This Assistant Professor, Educator position will be responsible for teaching career education / professional development courses. Assigned teaching responsibilities primarily includes courses serving students in the College of Arts and Sciences, including courses designed for specific and mixed populations (i.e. first-year exploratory students, mid-collegiate students with declared majors, pre-health students, student athletes, and gen-1 students). As new initiatives are developed, the faculty member may be responsible for developing, teaching and / or coordinating career education / experiential learning / college success courses that align with the mission of CCPS and / or institutional initiatives. Ideal candidates will demonstrate an openness to taking on teaching assignments that are collaborative, interdisciplinary and aligned with CCPS’s mission.

Teaching (85-90%)

On a full-time basis, an educator faculty member’s primary responsibility involves classroom instruction in the pedagogical mission of CCPS and advising students enrolled in assigned programs regarding career-relevant development. This faculty member’s primary responsibility will be advancing the mission of CCPS through in classroom teaching, online / hybrid teaching, student advising, and internal / external partnership development and will typically include a teaching workload of 19-22 credit hours of coursework.

Faculty will guide students through the process of searching for and obtaining experiential learning opportunities that align with their professional goals. Faculty are responsible for learning multiple platforms, systems and processes to help students navigate a wide range of resources. Faculty must also collaborate with the career service studio, academic advisors and industry professionals to develop personalized referrals based on unique student needs.

Essential Functions

The core responsibility of Assistant Professor Educator is fostering the professional development of our students and preparing them for success whether gainful employment or post-graduate education. Specific responsibilities that support student success include :

  • Teaching professional development courses to students primarily in the College of Arts & Sciences
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to develop courses; Organize lessons that support course and daily learning outcomes.
  • Developing and leading interactive instruction.
  • Monitoring student learning and providing feedback utilizing university alert systems.
  • Preparing materials that are universally accessible; Communicating effectively to students.
  • Working collaboratively with internal and external partners to develop holistic and supportive opportunities for students.

Service (5-10%) and Scholarship (5-10%),

Educator appointed faculty are expected to contribute to scholarship of teaching and learning or of their academic discipline, and to the service missions of the university. Specific expectations may be described in the letter of appointment and the unit reappointment and promotion criteria.

Scholarship activities typically involve research in their area of interest (e.g., leading to presentation and publication), including but not limited to understanding the impact of their teaching methods. Scholarship activities also include professional development and demonstrated application of skills or knowledge acquired (e.g., the application of a new teaching method). For all aspects of their role, they uphold the core values of the college.

Minimum Requirements

Master’s Degree in a relevant field.

Two years of relevant professional work experience.

Additional Qualifications Considered

Demonstrated organizational, written and oral communications skills.

Experience teaching and developing course materials, in both face-to-face and online formats.

Candidate must have the ability to use Windows-based office software products.

The ideal candidate will possess relevant, professional experience in both academic and non-academic environments.

High adaptability regarding approach to work and teaching modality.

Documented teaching and advising experience related to career education and / or professional development.

Additional Qualifications Considered cont.

Strong understanding of undecided student needs and how to support students through career exploration.

Experience teaching and / or advising first year students and understanding the role of teaching in the university goal of student retention and persistence.

Professional experience in experiential learning.

Candidates should demonstrate an understanding of social and ethical issues in career exploration.

Reappointment, Promotion, Tenure (RPT) : This appointment may be renewed under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), provided your performance satisfies the criteria of your department’s guidelines for reappointment, program need, available budget, and upon approval by the Provost. The RPT process reviews your work and contributions to teaching, scholarly work, and service as noted int he job description.
