JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS :
The Pennsylvania State University School of Theatre invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Voice for its nationally renowned BFA Musical Theatre program beginning fall 2025. We seek a dynamic and accomplished artist-teacher with a strong commitment to excellence in musical theatre vocal performance, pedagogy, and scholarship. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to use and apply inclusive practices in educating diverse student bodies by providing voice training for the musical theatre artist, maintaining an active research and creative agenda, while contributing to the intellectual and artistic life of the school through teaching, performance, and service.
The BFA in Musical Theatre is a rigorous professional training program housed in the School of Theatre and College of Arts and Architecture. The mission of the program is to train students to successfully compete in the professional musical theatre industry, while providing a technical and artistic foundation for life-long creative output. Graduates of the program regularly perform on Broadway and around the country and world.

The ideal candidate will provide evidence of their experience with and interest in contributing to these goals.
Position Summary :
The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to deliver voice training for the musical theatre artist, maintain an active research and creative agenda, while contributing to the intellectual and artistic life of the school through teaching, creative work, and service. Duties primarily include teaching private voice to BFA musical theatre majors. In addition to teaching the technique surrounding the voice for musical theatre, there is an expectation that the studio time includes ear training and musicianship. Other duties include teaching in a collaborative studio and coaching.
Teach voice lessons to undergraduate students in a variety of vocal styles and repertoires within musical theatre, and / or contemporary pop music. Additional teaching responsibilities may include related courses based on the candidate's expertise and the department's needs.
Maintain an active research and / or creative agenda in musical theatre vocal performance, pedagogy, or related fields, with outcomes that contribute to the national and international visibility of the program. This may include solo and collaborative performances, recordings, publications, presentations, and other scholarly or creative work.
Engage in departmental, college, and university service, including committee work, recruitment activities, and community engagement. The successful candidate will contribute to the professional development of students and actively participate in the cultural and intellectual life of the campus and professional organizations.

ABOUT SCHOOL OF THEATRE
The School of Theatre houses Penn State Centre Stage (PSCS), the professional theatre training program in Central Pennsylvania which presents theatrical productions by emerging artists. The School of Theatre offers several degrees including a BFA in Musical Theatre, BFA in Acting, BFA in Design, Tech, or Stage Management, a BA in Theatre, an MFA in Theatre, and a Theatre minor.
