Position Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the Senior Director, the CES Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and supporting the effectiveness of the Adults and Family Programs and the Aging Adult Programs. This role also assists with the Community Health and Wellness (CHW) Program, including the African American Holistic Wellness (AAHW) initiative, which focuses on promoting overall well-being through holistic approaches to health, wellness, social engagement, and mental health awareness.

The Bayview Hunters Point YMCA plays a vital role in addressing community needs, including health promotion, social connection, educational support, and access to wellness resources. This position primarily involves coordinating program activities and cultural events for adults and families.

Some evening and weekend availability are required.

Job Responsibilities

Event and Program Coordination

  • Plan and execute community-building events, including cultural celebrations, holiday gatherings, and speaker engagements.
  • Oversee program activities and provide leadership to community health ambassadors and volunteers.

Marketing and Outreach

  • Develop, organize, and distribute program materials, including newsletters, flyers, posters, and other outreach media to enhance community engagement.
  • Health and Wellness Program Support

  • Facilitate the setup and breakdown of wellness and fitness classes as needed.
  • Actively support and participate in wellness and fitness program activities.
  • Community Engagement and Partnerships

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with community partners to enhance program impact.
  • Represent the organization at community and staff meetings to foster collaboration and strategic alignment.
  • Support group facilitation and lead discussions as required.
  • Organize and deliver presentations and community education initiatives.
  • Data Management and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records, including attendance tracking and participant satisfaction surveys.
  • Design and administer community surveys to assess program effectiveness and community needs.
  • Prepare and submit comprehensive monthly reports, including statistical analysis.
  • Resource Development and Awareness

  • Stay informed on citywide resources and services relevant to African American communities to enhance program offerings and referrals.
  • Work Environment & Physical Demands

    The Program Coordinator works in a community-based environment, which includes both indoor and outdoor settings depending on the program activities. This role involves frequent interaction with staff, community members, and partners in a fast-paced and dynamic atmosphere. Occasional travel within the local area may be required to attend meetings, events, or community gatherings.

    The Program Coordinator is expected to lift and move materials for events and programs, with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. The position also requires standing, sitting, or walking for extended periods during activities or while facilitating programs. Flexibility in working hours is necessary, as the role may involve evening and weekend commitments to support program schedules and community events.

  • Salary Description

    The Program Coordinator position offers a compensation range of $28.00 - $30.00 per hour. This rate is based on salary benchmarking for similar roles and is aligned with grant fund approvals and requirements for the position.

    Qualifications

  • 21 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience in community engagement and program coordination.
  • Availability on weekdays, with occasional evening and weekend commitments.
  • Familiarity of the needs, experiences, and strengths of African American communities and other historically underserved populations.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree in communication, management, or social sciences.
  • Background in project management, facilitation, wellness coaching, or community liaison roles.
  • Project Management Certificate or Facilitation Certificate.
