Role Overview :
A family in San Francisco is seeking an experienced, highly qualified private educator to provide 1 : 1 instruction for their elementary-aged son who has ADHD and autism spectrum behaviors (ASB). The ideal candidate will be well-versed in working with children who face challenges with noise and distraction, and they will either supplement the childs current education or serve as the primary teacher if the child is not enrolled in school. This is a long-term role with a preference for candidates who can accommodate occasional holiday travel. Ideal start is January 2024.
Schedule : Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM = 40 hours per week
Children : Elementary-aged Boy
Duties : Provide 1 : 1 academic instruction tailored to the childs learning needs and interests. Collaborate with parents and therapists to implement effective learning strategies, including those rooted in ABA therapy. Accompany the child to school if enrolled, supporting his academic and social integration. Develop and adapt lesson plans focusing on subjects such as science, math, philosophy, and history. Monitor and document progress, adjusting methods as necessary to achieve optimal outcomes. Engage with therapy schedules and provide educational continuity between sessions.
Requirements : Formal education background; a Masters degree or higher is preferred. Extensive experience teaching or working with neurodiverse children, particularly those with ADHD and autism spectrum behaviors. Familiarity with ABA therapy and other evidence-based interventions; BCBA certification is a plus. Knowledgeable in science, math, history, and philosophy, with the ability to inspire curiosity and a love of learning. Patient, compassionate, and adaptable, with excellent communication skills.
Experience with home instruction and flexibility for occasional travel.
Salary : Starting at $150,000 per year plus a healthcare stipend, paid time off, and sick time.
