Job description

Key Responsibilities :

  • Transportation & Delivery :

Operate a commercial truck with a valid CDL to transport agricultural products such as fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and seeds to customers' farms or agricultural sites.

  • Ensure all products are delivered safely, accurately, and on time, following the designated delivery schedule.
  • Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections on the vehicle to ensure safety and operational efficiency, including checking tires, brakes, lights, and fluids.
  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal transportation regulations and safety standards, including compliance with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
  • Loading & Unloading :
  • Assist with loading and unloading products at the agronomy facility or customer location, ensuring proper handling to avoid damage to the products.

  • Operate mechanical equipment like forklifts, pallet jacks, or conveyors to move products onto and off the truck.
  • Ensure that all loads are properly secured and balanced to prevent shifting or accidents during transport.
  • Product Handling & Application :
  • In some cases, help with or operate the equipment for the application of fertilizers or chemicals in the field, following proper safety and application procedures.

  • Ensure correct amounts of products are applied in the appropriate areas, based on customer orders and agronomy recommendations.
  • Follow strict guidelines for the safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and products, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Customer Service & Communication :
  • Serve as a direct point of contact for customers during deliveries, addressing any questions or concerns they may have regarding products or services.

  • Maintain professional and positive communication with customers, ensuring that all deliveries are made in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Report any issues with deliveries (e.g., delays, damaged goods, or product shortages) to the appropriate manager or customer service team.
  • Safety & Compliance :
  • Follow all safety procedures when operating the truck and while unloading or applying products.

  • Maintain accurate records of deliveries, product inventory, and any other necessary documentation, such as Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) or delivery logs .
  • Adhere to safety standards related to chemical handling, including proper storage and securement of hazardous materials during transport.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations for hazardous materials, including EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) guidelines and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards.
  • Maintenance & Cleanliness :
  • Maintain the cleanliness and good working condition of the truck, including regular washing, fueling, and servicing of the vehicle.

  • Report any mechanical issues or needed repairs to the fleet management team or supervisor.
  • Keep the truck and equipment free of product residue and debris to ensure proper safety and operational conditions.
  • Record-Keeping & Reporting :
  • Accurately document the details of each trip, including delivery time, quantity of products delivered, and any incidents or issues that occur.

  • Maintain logs of working hours, vehicle inspections, and maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations.
  • Key Skills & Qualifications :

  • CDL License : A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required, with appropriate endorsements for transporting hazardous materials (if applicable).
  • Driving Experience : Proven experience driving large commercial vehicles, preferably in the agricultural or distribution industry.
  • Product Knowledge : Basic knowledge of agricultural products and their handling requirements, such as fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides.
  • Safety-Conscious : Strong understanding of safety procedures when transporting and handling agricultural chemicals and equipment.
  • Customer Service Skills : Ability to communicate effectively with customers and provide high-quality service during deliveries.
  • Physical Stamina : Ability to load and unload heavy products, as well as operate machinery and equipment as needed.
  • Attention to Detail : Ensuring accurate documentation of deliveries, compliance with regulations, and safe handling of products.
  • Time Management : Ability to manage delivery schedules and work efficiently within tight time frames.
  • Basic Mechanic Knowledge : Familiarity with vehicle maintenance and minor troubleshooting to ensure the truck is in optimal working condition.
  • Education & Experience :

  • High School Diploma or GED is typically required.
  • CDL (Commercial Driver's License) : Required with appropriate endorsements, such as Hazmat (if transporting hazardous chemicals).
  • Experience : Previous driving experience in the agricultural, distribution, or transportation sectors is preferred.
  • Training : Some employers may require or provide specialized training in the safe handling of agricultural products or chemical applications.
  • Working Conditions :

  • Physical Demands : The job may require lifting, bending, and being on your feet for long periods, especially when loading or unloading products.
