Job description

Come work for OHM Advisors, the Community Advancement firm.

With the singular mission of Advancing Communities, our diverse 800+ member team works collaboratively across multiple service areas in multiple states, including architecture, engineering, planning, surveying, and construction engineering.

We are a team of experts with individual specialties working together, driven to make a difference through people-focused problem solving, design, and ideas. In everything we do, we put people first. We create places for communities of people that help solve a problem and drive them forward— advancing the whole community today and well into the future.

What You Will Contribute to OHM Advisors

As a Civil Designer at OHM Advisors, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality design solutions across a variety of projects, including water resources, site development, environmental, transportation, and construction management. You will collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other professionals to develop innovative designs that support mixed-use and public-private partnership projects. Your expertise in AutoCAD Civil 3D and other design tools will drive project success from conception to completion, ensuring technical excellence and compliance with industry standards.

Your Responsibilities

CAD Drawing, Design Review, and Analysis:

  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to create detailed civil engineering drawings.
  • Prepare site design plans, including geometric layouts, grading, drainage, stormwater management, erosion control, and construction details.
  • Research and apply relevant land development codes, drainage manuals, and entitlement processes.
  • Analyze sketches, notes, and other materials to determine the best approach for design completion.

Coordination and Communication:

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers and project managers, to develop design plans and specifications.
  • Assist in coordinating design efforts across various project disciplines.
  • Identify potential design conflicts and provide solutions to engineers.
  • When applicable, provide guidance and support to junior CAD technicians or team members to assist with their skill development.

Quality Control, Documentation, and Reporting:

  • Perform quality control reviews of construction documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project standards.
  • Complete redline markups in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Generate quantity tables, pay items, and design spreadsheets.
  • Assist in compiling construction plans and submittals for project delivery.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; additional technical training or coursework in civil engineering design is a plus.
  • 5 years of CAD drafting experience in a professional setting, or equivalent education and training that provides the necessary skills for the role.
  • Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and its functionality.
  • Experience with additional software such as GIS, AutoTurn, Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Passion for advancing communities through innovative design solutions.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
