The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. Position Summary
The primary purpose and function of the Veterinary Technician is to support veterinarians in teaching veterinary students clinical skills including technical skills and animal care.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and / or Competencies
Be familiar with all basic clinical skills for all four species : E.g. collecting blood and other specimens, inserting catheters, administration of medications,
Be familiar with basic anesthetic techniques including intubation, and maintenance.
Surgical assistance : be familiar with instruments, all aspects of sterile technique, surgical scrubbing (patient and surgeon)
Euthanasia.
Physical Demands
Lift 50lb.
Sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently during the day on hard floor surfaces.
Manual dexterity sufficient to accurately work with small, delicate pieces of equipment or large heavy objects / containers / machinery.
Wear protective clothing including mask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles etc.
Driving as needed to perform job tasks.

Teaching veterinary students various clinical skills; this includes but is not limited to basic clinical skills in addition to assisting with teaching more complex skills; work with Director of Clinical Skills Lab and other technicians to teach the course.
