About Accountable.US

Accountable.US is a nonpartisan watchdog organization that shines a light on the corrupting influence of powerful corporations and special interests on public policymaking. Our work helps pave the way for policies that advance the interests of all Americans, not just the rich and powerful. If you‘re looking for a growing, fast-paced organization that invests in its people and strives to create more equitable and inclusive communities, then Accountable.US could be the place for you. We offer competitive salaries, exceptional benefits, and we encourage a healthy work / life balance for our staff.

Position Summary

Are you a seasoned leader who thrives in high-stakes environments and excels at shaping narratives? Accountable.US is seeking a Vice President to lead a campaign and manage its strategic messaging, engagement, research, and communications. You would also serve as a key spokesperson and liaison for the organization in your program area. The ideal candidate is an innovative strategist and a collaborative partner who understands how to use research to engage in narrative-driving work, create impact, and who can engage diverse stakeholders to advance the organization’s mission. This role requires a proactive, adaptable leader committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Some night and weekend work is required in this fast-paced, dynamic position.

What You’ll Do

Core Responsibilities

  • Strategic Oversight : Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive strategic plan and project goals for one of Accountable.US’s program areas, leveraging our expertise in opposition research, rapid response, and innovative communications.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration : Partner with senior leadership to assess and fulfill staffing and organizational needs essential to implementing the strategic plan successfully.
  • Program & Project Leadership : Drive the daily execution of strategic objectives within your program area, ensuring goals are met and aligned with Accountable.US’s mission. Oversee related grant deliverables, polling, research and messaging vendors, and, where appropriate, paid media campaigns to maximize impact. Serve as a spokesperson as needed to represent the organization’s goals effectively.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships : Act as a liaison with key stakeholders, maintaining relationships with current partners and developing connections with new stakeholders to enhance program reach and influence.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Team Development and Mentorship : Manage and mentor a team of communications professionals, fostering growth and collaboration within the department.
  • Commitment to DEI : Identify opportunities to embed diversity, equity, and inclusion within communications strategies and public messaging.
  • Who You Are

You’re a mission-driven leader with a strong commitment to progressive values, including diversity, equity, and inclusion. With extensive experience in high-stakes political or advocacy settings, you excel at overseeing campaigns, shaping narratives, and building relationships with media and stakeholders. You’re a proactive strategist who effectively uses research and a variety of communications tools to create impactful, narrative-driven work to advance Accountable.US’s mission. A collaborative and adaptable partner, you thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments and are unafraid to embrace innovative approaches and adapt a range of tactics and tools for maximum impact. Your exceptional communication skills, political acumen, and commitment to engaging diverse voices make you a valued leader in amplifying our organization’s goals.

    Desired Experience & Skills

  • Education : Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, political science, or a related field preferred; law degree preferred.
  • Experience : 10+ years political and / or advocacy experience required, with preference for candidates who have campaign experience. Management experience is also required, with a proven track record of producing results from a high-performing team.
  • Knowledge : Familiarity with the legal system is strongly preferred.
  • Skills : Strong written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to create impactful media and public relations strategies. Collaborative approach with the flexibility to adapt in a dynamic environment.
  • Values : A commitment to progressive values, including diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice, aligned with Accountable.US’s mission.
  • What We Offer

The salary range for this position is $175,000-$200,000. Exact compensation package is commensurate with experience. Our excellent benefits package includes health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, a 401(k) match, generous paid time off, professional development opportunities, and more. Accountable.US is currently operating in a hybrid work environment and requires employees to be in the office a minimum of 2 days per week, although this requirement is subject to change. Some weekend work may be required.

    A Note to All Applicants

Accountable.US is committed to attracting, developing and retaining exceptional people, and to creating a work environment that is dynamic, rewarding and enables each of us to realize our potential. Our work environment is safe and open to all employees and partners, respecting the full spectrum of race, color, religious creed, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, political affiliation, ancestry, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, and all other classifications protected by law in the locality and / or state in which you are working.

A Note to Candidates : Studies have shown that women, nonbinary folks, and People of Color are less likely to apply for jobs unless they believe they meet every single one of the qualifications as described in a job description. We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive organization and we are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job. That candidate may be one who comes from a background less traditional to our field of work, and that’s okay. We would strongly encourage you to apply, even if you don’t believe you meet every one of the qualifications described.
