Position begins August 2025

Full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor (Tenor); salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position requires relocation to Austin, TX.

Responsibilities

Teach individual lessons to undergraduate and graduate voice students; supervise recitals, special projects, and DMA documents and treatises; organize weekly studio classes; recruit, develop, and retain a voice studio of the highest quality via local, regional, national, and international outreach and performing; liaise and collaborate with colleagues in opera, choral, and chamber music; engage in leadership and service activities within the division, the Butler School of Music, the College, and the University. Create and maintain a national profile as a performer or researcher in the field.

The UT voice studios consistently provide opportunities for students to learn European and American canonic repertoires as well as repertoires from other geographical and cultural contexts. We welcome applicants who can help us broaden our collective areas of vocal expertise.

Butler School of Music, comprising some 80 faculty and approximately 620 music students, has an outstanding reputation for its performance and academic programs. Degree plans range from the bachelors to the doctoral level. Qualifications

A record of excellence as a performer and demonstrated potential to develop and / or maintain a nationally or internationally recognized career as a singer; a record of excellence as a teacher at the college or music conservatory level; preference will be given to those who can teach courses in lyric diction; demonstrated commitment to preparing young musicians for 21st-century teaching and performing careers that embody high professional standards, superb pedagogical skills, advocacy and outreach, and active mentoring; demonstrated experience teaching or working with students from many backgrounds; knowledge of a broad range of repertoires is encouraged, especially those less represented in the academy; an active professional profile, including visibility as a performer and as a presenter at professional meetings.

DMA preferred, but outstanding professional experience and completion of a master's degree will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates with significant performance experience and an established record of successful teaching, recruitment, and retention at a university or conservatory.
