The technicians primarily focus on pickup and management of chemical waste and medical waste.The candidate must be able to :

  • drive a large pickup truck and a large cargo van,
  • pick up at least 50 pounds,
  • handle 55-gallon drums (150 to 800 pounds) with drum handling equipment, and
  • learn all parts of waste management to be able to cover other team members when they are out.Other work includes responding to customer email requests, solving problems for customers, managing medical waste accounts, managing invoices, reviewing and filing Hazardous Waste manifests, maintaining supply inventory and ordering supplies, collecting metrics, coding and labeling chemical waste for storage, decontaminating cold rooms, performing decontamination certifications of equipment decontaminated by labs, performing surveys of waste storage areas, communicating with chemical and medical waste vendors, helping find ways to reduce costs, helping find ways to reduce or prevent waste generation, assisting with cross-training other safety personnel, contributing to program improvement, and serving as a member of the incident response team for hazardous materials releases, floods, fire, etc. Training is extensive and all team members carry radios.BENEFITSUT Southwestern is proud to offer a competitive and comprehensive benefits package to eligible employees.   • Helps ensures the safe use of hazardous materials through licensure, registration, and compliance with accepted environmental, health, and safety standards.
  • Performs safety inspections and tracks items for resolution.
  • Identifies potential safety hazards, documents identified conditions, and takes action to correct identified deficiencies.
  • Conducts or ensures testing, inspection, and maintenance of safety equipment and systems.
  • May perform periodic pick up, transportation, segregation, and processing of hazardous materials.
  • Maintains storage areas, equipment, and personal protective equipment related to hazardous materials.
  • Maintains required records and documentation.
  • Assists in preparing for and responding to emergencies including hazardous materials incidents. Participates in emergency drills including fire drills.
  • Individual may be on-call or emergency situations may require the individual to respond at times outside of set work schedule.
  • This position is designated as essential. Personnel in designated essential positions are expected to report to work as required in the event of an emergency to sustain institutional services or protect assets.
