We are seeking a goal-oriented team player with the desire and ability to effectively work in a small crew or independently in both office and field environments. The optimal candidate needs to be able to multitask, as the position requires the individual to perform various duties on a regular basis.
Your specific responsibilities include :
- Manage hazardous material and regulated (including but not limited to hazardous, medical, and biohazardous) wastes from site operations and projects to ensure effective implementation of chemical and waste programs.
- Under limited supervision, perform moderately complex technical work in a wide range of environmental, health, and safety disciplines to ensure a safe work environment and to achieve compliance with SLAC's environmental, health, and safety standards and governmental regulatory requirements.
- Develop, implement, and maintain processes, tools, programs, systems, and procedures necessary to ensure the overall safety and health of employees and the community.
- Conduct comprehensive management of hazardous materials and wastes throughout their lifecycles from inception to final off-site disposal.
- Develop and conduct training in support of hazardous material and waste programs to enable successful learning and development across complex and diverse organizations.
- Monitor and prevent potential hazards and unsafe conditions that could be present in the work area.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, injuries, and complaints concerning potential hazards or unsafe conditions in the workplace.
- Recommend and implement improvements in processes, design, procedures, and operating equipment to minimize the hazard potential.
- May act as a lead or technical expert and provide direction to less experienced personnel working on environmental, health and safety programs.
- Perform chemical and waste management activities, including input, hazard classification, reconciliation, inventory management; chemical labeling, segregation, and storage, including management of time-sensitive chemicals.
- Provide technical advice and interpretation of various government regulations and applicable policies; maintain working knowledge of specific government regulations.
