Role Title : Medical Content Editor
Location : Fully Remote (US-Based ONLY)
Salary : 85-150k
Time off : 4 week's vacation, 14 wellness days, the entire company is closed from Christmas Eve through New Year Day, the entire company is closed for every Federal holiday, two personal days
Position Summary :
We are seeking a remote, full-time, highly-skilled and experienced Medical Content Editor to lead the development and production of high-quality scientific, medical, and clinical trials content for healthcare providers, physicians, and other key audiences across our medical verticals BDOPro, Clinical Trials, and other editorial initiatives. This role requires a blend of editorial leadership, scientific acumen, and creative content development.
Key Responsibilities :
Content Creation & Management
Assign, write, and edit a diverse range of medical news, health equity, health-related articles on topics, including new approved drugs, federal guidelines, branded content, patient education resources, newsletters, screening guidelines, and healthcare disparities issues.
Translate complex clinical and scientific information into clear, compelling, and accurate content for vast audiences.
Summarize medical journals and research manuscripts, identifying key points for technical and regulatory audiences.
Build and manage a team of freelance writers, providing clear guidance, editorial feedback, and ensuring adherence to brand voice and medical guidelines.
Work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders to shape story ideas, visual direction, and media planning.
Editorial Leadership & Strategy
Develop and implement comprehensive content strategies for medical verticals, ensuring alignment with business, SEO, and brand objectives.
Collaborate with marketing, partnerships, and analytics teams to optimize content performance and engagement.
Represent the organization at live events, panels, in client briefings, editorial discussions, and external engagements.
Medical Advisory & Expert Collaboration
Collaborate with a BD’s medical advisory network of subject matter experts, thought leaders, and health care executives to ensure scientific and medical accuracy of all content.
Conduct high-level editing and fact-checking for medical accuracy, accessibility, and tone.
Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, standards, and key medical topics and terminology to serve as a resource to internal and client teams.
Stay up-to-date with relevant medical news, studies, literature, clinical practice guidelines, approved therapeutic drugs, regimens, devices, and therapeutic pipelines.
Multimedia Content Development
Contribute to other BD larger editorial calendar as needed, including special projects, series, and timely content, and social media content across platforms.
Oversee the planning and execution of programming (guest preparation, scripting, and branded content integration) during live and recorded editorial events. (e.g., Livestreams, webinars).
Record, edit, and produce video content and / or produce podcasts.
Leverage analytics and audience behavior insights to optimize multimedia content performance.
Quality Assurance
Ensure all content maintains brand voice and aligns with current medical guidelines and regulatory requirements.
Conduct thorough review and preparation of research manuscripts for publication.
Qualifications :
Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree (journalism, communications, life sciences, public health, or clinical sciences) or similar with several years’ relevant work experience preferred.
5 to 7+ years of progressive experience in medical writing and editing, with a focus on high-science, data-heavy healthcare content.
Proven experience in leading editorial strategy and managing a team of writers.
Demonstrated ability to dissect and interpret complex scientific data, identifying key points for technical and regulatory audiences.
Experience working with medical advisory boards or subject matter experts.
Proficiency in manuscript review and selection, peer review, issue makeup, manuscript editing, and online publishing.
Experience in creating and editing social media content, video, and podcasts.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Deep commitment to accuracy, equity, inclusion, and ethical communication in healthcare.

Understand the workflow for content creation, editing, fact-checking, and publication.

Start with high-level editing and fact-checking of existing or in-progress content for medical accuracy, accessibility, and tone.
Shadow senior editors or team members to observe content assignment, writing, and editing processes.

Active Content Creation & Management :
Begin assigning, writing, and editing a diverse range of medical news, health equity articles, new drug information, federal guidelines, branded content, patient education resources, newsletters, screening guidelines, and healthcare disparities issues.

Freelance Writer Management :

Contribute to the development and implementation of content strategies for medical verticals, ensuring alignment with business, SEO, and brand objectives.
