Engineering Manager / Senior Engineering Manager

The Public Works Agency employs Engineering Manager / Senior Engineering Manager in four departments : Engineering Services, Roads & Transportation, Water & Sanitation, and Watershed Protection.

The Engineering Manager vacancy within Water and Sanitation - Planning & Permits, under direction of the Deputy Director - WS, manages the advance planning, asset management and capital project programs for the four water and seven sewer systems under WS. This includes developing master plans for each system, preparing the capital improvement program and budget and other project related information.

The Engineering Manager vacancy within Water and Sanitation Projects, under direction of the Senior Engineering Manager - WS, manages complex capital projects and programs, including the supervision of staff supporting this work, for the four water and seven sewer systems under WS. This includes managing professional services and contractors for all phases of a project's development and execution.

The Engineering Manager vacancy within Watershed Protection - Design & Construction, under direction of the Deputy Director - D&C, is responsible for supervising, directing and coordinating the work of project delivery team members both within and outside the Agency in the design and construction of Agency projects including emergency, permit, capital, flood threat mitigation, environmental mitigation, maintenance and storm water quality improvement projects; and acts as the resident engineer on those projects.

The Senior Engineering Manager vacancy within Engineering Services Land Development Services Division, under direction of the Director ES, manages a major section of the Department and is responsible for the planning, organizing, directing and coordinating of varied activities within the division.

Duties for Engineering Manager may include, but are not limited to, the following : managing a major engineering program, project, or a section's daily activities including scheduling staff and assignments; setting work priorities; overseeing work; providing technical support; coordinating section's work with other Public Works sections, County departments / agencies, and external governmental agencies.

Duties for Senior Engineering Manager may include, but are not limited to, the following : responsible for all activities of the division while planning, directing, and supervising divisional resources.

These are entrance requirements to the exam process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list. Education, training and experience for Engineering Manager and Senior Engineering Manager are required. Necessary special requirements include a valid California driver's license and California registration as a Professional Engineer or Licensed Architect. Desired experience includes public speaking, emergency disaster service and response, proficiency with Microsoft software, project budgeting, and reading and interpreting reports and plans.

Work is performed primarily in an office environment and may include travel to and from construction and maintenance sites, which may involve working near equipment or machinery.
