Job Summary
The Coordinator of Wellness plays a pivotal role in fostering an environment of holistic health, prevention, and well-being. This position is responsible for creating, organizing, and facilitating a range of wellness, sexual health, and HIV prevention services designed to enhance health outcomes, improve overall quality of life, and promote physical, mental, and social well-being.
These services include wellness education, complementary therapies, and PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) awareness and linkage to care. Programming aims to reduce barriers to accessing comprehensive, affirming care by addressing diverse health needs beyond traditional medical interventions.
Key responsibilities include managing all logistics related to patient enrollment, coordinating instructor recruitment, and overseeing facility use for program activities, such as room scheduling. The Coordinator also actively participates as a group instructor, delivering engaging, evidence-based wellness education and prevention education that inspires healthier lifestyles, supports informed sexual health decision-making, and foster community connections.
By offering complementary therapies, prevention education, and innovative wellness programming, the Coordinator ensures that individuals have access to tools and resources that empower them to take an active role in their health journey. This role is integral in bridging gaps in care, strengthening linkage to preventive services, and fostering a proactive, sex-positive approach to wellness that supports a vibrant and resilient community.
Core Whitman-Walker Primary Essential Duties:
- Performs and behaves in accordance with Whitman-Walker's mission, cultural norms and core values of dignity, respect, affirmation, and humility.
- Maintain a respectful, non-judgmental, and compassionate manner with patients/clients/staff.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service by identifying and exceeding customer requirements.
- Adhere to Whitman-Walker policies and procedures, with special attention given to HIPAA requirements.
- Maintain data integrity through conscientious use of relevant tools and employing a system of checks and balances.
- Demonstrate organizational skills necessary to multi-task, meet deadlines and re-prioritize as needed.
- Participate in organizational quality and performance improvement activities.
- Coordinates with all managers regarding the planning and implementation of all patient health promotion and wellness groups. Develops a robust schedule of events that motivates and engages patients.
- Solicits input and feedback from clients and conducts patient needs assessments associated with health and wellness.
- Builds professional partnerships with other organizations that support the efforts of health promotion, wellness, sexual health, and HIV prevention efforts..
- Coordinates the complementary therapies component of the group-level intervention program, collaborating with internal providers and external partners to deliver services such as diabetes self- management groups, HIV education, sexual health education, yoga, massage, reiki, smoking cessation, healthy eating, obesity counseling, etc.
- Provides PrEP education, promotion, and navigation support, including facilitating referrals and linkage to PrEP, HIV testing, and STI services in collaboration with clinical and prevention teams.
- Recruits and train volunteers who support applicable activities; facilitates volunteer supervision meetings.
- Conducts screening intakes for all participants in the program
- Tracks and monitors participant attendance
- Prepares monthly productivity reports
- Conducts ongoing program evaluation
- Coordinates advertising/marketing for wellness and prevention programming.
- Manages meeting space

- Knowledge of techniques for assessing clients' needs, developing risk-reduction and referral plans, identifying resources, making referrals, following up to ensure completed referrals, documenting client interactions, and proactively supporting clients' pursuit of goals.
- 4 years of direct experience or bachelor's degree in public health, psychology, social work, or related field.
- At least one year of experience working with diverse patient populations.
- At least two years of experience in providing health education and risk reduction counseling on related health risks required.
- Experience working with a broadly diverse population and ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals is required.
Working conditions for this position are normal for an office environment. Individuals may be required to work evenings and / or weekends and organize events.
Physical Demands:
