Job Title : Youth Program Specialist

The IRC Washington Youth Program envisions that youth from refugee and immigrant backgrounds will have the skills and resources necessary for a future of opportunity. The program provides educational and enrichment opportunities to help school-aged youth catch up on missed education, adapt to new schools, accelerate English language development, and build positive relationships within schools and communities. It also supports families and educators to better serve these students.
Position Overview
The Sr. Youth Program Specialist will coordinate, implement, and teach in IRCs Youth and Education Programs in Spokane, WA, focusing initially on the Individualized Tutoring Program and Virtual Summer Reading Program.
Summer Reading Program
This program aims to mitigate summer learning loss, promote literacy, language acquisition, social-emotional development, peer connections, and cultural identity for elementary students. Activities include reading sessions, themed lessons, virtual field trips, and distribution of learning kits and devices. Students are encouraged to read independently through incentives.
Individualized Tutoring Program
This program pairs K-12 students with trained tutors to support English language skills, literacy, math, homework, and social-emotional learning, meeting weekly either at home or online.
Key Responsibilities
- Virtual Summer Reading Program : Lead planning, curriculum development, facilitate activities, provide support, and track student progress.
- Partnership Engagement : Attend community events and maintain communication with families and partners.
- Data and Feedback : Record attendance and progress, conduct follow-ups, and support program evaluation.
- Individualized Tutoring Program : Coordinate tutor recruitment, training, supervision, and family outreach.
- Other Duties : Participate in team meetings, staff development, and uphold agency policies.
Key Working Relationships
Reports to : Youth Program Coordinator. Supervises : Interns, volunteers. Maintains contacts with school districts, partner organizations, and community members.
Job Requirements
Working Environment
Hybrid model : in-office and remote. Requires travel within Spokane Public School district, with evening and occasional weekend hours. Position from June 23, 2025, to March 31, 2026, with potential renewal.
