Job description

The Good Seed Transition Age Youth Drop-In Center supports vulnerable and disadvantaged 18–25-year-olds across Los Angeles County. Our facility’s core services include a drop-in center, counselling, emergency and supported accommodation, guidance and advice around employment, education, vocation, housing, and training.

The Good Seed Transition Age Youth Drop-In Center’s mission is to enable young people from diverse backgrounds and with chaotic lifestyles to broaden their opportunities, realize their aspirations and optimize their well-being. We achieve this through the delivery of bespoke, holistic support packages helping them overcome disadvantage and reduce risk whilst facilitating the transition to independent adulthood.

Description :

The Youth Employment Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing programs aimed at assisting young individuals in finding and securing employment. This role involves providing career counseling, conducting job readiness workshops, and connecting youth with local employers and job opportunities. The specialist will also collaborate with community organizations, schools, and government agencies to create pathways for career development and address barriers to employment for youth. Additionally, the position requires maintaining detailed records of participant progress, preparing reports, and staying updated on labor market trends to ensure effective support and guidance for young job seekers. This role will be supervised by the Drop-In Center (DIC) Program Manager / Executive Support Administrator.

The requirements for the Youth Employment Specialist are :

  • Develops a wide variety of job opportunities for TAY DIC clients.
  • Establishes and maintains active and frequent contact with local community organizations and employers (Greater Los Angeles Region).
  • Develops and maintains detailed knowledge of the local labor market (Greater Los Angeles Region).
  • Establishes rapport with area businesses.
  • Works with businesses to identify job openings, alternative work activities, and training initiatives.
  • Assists employers in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring qualified applicants.
  • Maintains a current listing of local job opportunities (Greater Los Angeles County Region).
  • Keeps TAY DIC program staff apprised of local businesses needs and job placement opportunities.
  • Works with case management staff to facilitate job placements.
  • Performs follow-up of graduates from training and / or rehabilitation programs to evaluate how well local training programs relate to skills needed and desired in the community.
  • Enlists cooperation of community and business leaders to help increase awareness of available workforce services in the community.
  • Maintains follow-up contact with employers to determine satisfaction with services and plan for quality improvement.
  • Arranges for employers to speak to job seekers and employment and employer expectations.
  • Set up job fairs and employer events.
  • Other administrative duties as assigned.
  • Dual language proficiency is a plus.
  • Education / Certification & Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Political Science, Marketing or Business Administration from an accredited university or college, or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated employment development, customer service and / or sales experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with the communities being served, with knowledge and understanding of local needs and resources.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of labor market, trends (Greater Los Angeles Region).
  • Public speaking experience.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, with experience using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
