At the International Rescue Committee (IRC) we have a mission to help people whose lives have been shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and rebuild. In the Youth Education Department, we have the privilege of serving students and their parents. Our goal is to h elp students, parents, and schools with integration at school, after school, weekends, and school breaks. Over the course of nine weeks, the chosen candidate will assist in the planning, recruitment of students, implementation, and managing of a summer program and its student- part icipants .
RESPONSIBILITIES and LEARNING OUTCOMES :
Assisting with planning portions of programming : W e want you to join in developing a two-week curriculum for three sessions focusing on the areas of English Language Learning, Social Emotional Learning , and additional Crafts / Activities for Newcomers, who arrived with in the last year.
Identifying students, contacting families, and signing up students for programming : We have identified an apartment complex housing dozens of families eligible for services. We need to create three rosters of approximately 24 students each. We will provide information sessions for parents and students at the apartment complex with interpretation and obtain parent permission.
Implementing curriculum, engaging students, and providing classroom management : This is an o pportunity to work with non-native English , l ate elementary and middle school , speakers in small groups of 8-10 or whole group of approximately 24 students with at least two other IRC staff members. You will gain experience preparing and executing lessons which include supports and scaffolding for English Language Learners. We will focus on developing classroom management skill s by preparing engaging materials, identifying expectations, maintaining consistency, and utilizing a firm, y et warm demeanor .
Participate in reflecting, reviewing, and adjusting plans meeting : Individuals studying in the field of education quickly discover the importance of reflection . On Fridays , we want to participate in an hour meeting at a convenient time to be determined . We will discuss what worked and what did not; behaviors and management plans; the upcoming curriculum; and any adjustments need ing to be made . This meeting c an be virtual.
REQUIREMENTS :
The ideal candidate will be
A c ollege s ophomore interested in pursuing education, social work, or counseling.

A c ollege s tudent actively pursuing a degree in the field of education, social work, counseling .
An individual with a degree who want s to go back to school to pursue an education field degree. Update
