Job Description

The Youth Resiliency Specialist serves as a liaison to connect Native American youth to behavioral health services by creating internal and external partnerships within the American Indian Community. This role collaborates with behavioral health services and other departments within NATIVE HEALTH and the community. This role creates and fosters community partnerships by implementing suicide and substance abuse prevention messages / services for American Indians / Alaskan Natives. The Youth Resiliency Specialist coordinates cultural events for American Indian youth and their families.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES :

  • Responsible for creating consistent culturally relevant workshops and activities by collaborating with internal teams and community partners. Promote events effectively through various communication channels.
  • Participate in designing survey and collection methods with a Project Evaluator to measure training resources effectiveness, asset mapping outcomes, implementation plan and enter data in reporting systems as it relates to the program's goals and objectives identified by the Youth Resiliency Program Coordinator and CHW Director.
  • Facilitate monthly Native American Youth Council meetings and other cultural events that bring awareness to suicide and substance abuse prevention for American Indian youth.
  • Create an awareness and support for the system of care approach through community awareness and participation in Maricopa County.
  • Serves as the administrative support to Youth Resiliency Program Manager and Program staff.
  • Supports Community Health & Wellness programs and NATIVE HEALTH organization as needed.
  • Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENTS :

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, public health, community health, communications, American Indian Studies, education, or other related fields required.
  • Minimum of four years of experience working with American Indian / Alaska Native Indigenous youth and / or families.
  • Must have excellent research skills in developing an evaluation plan and implementation of grant projects / deliverables.
  • Must be able to work with confidential material without betraying the trust of client, family, and the agency.
  • Data entry, management and reporting experience at an advanced level.
  • Must have good communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Must always be professional in demeanor, dress, and presentation of person and materials produced by this organization.
  • Must be dependable, punctual, reliable, relate well with others, and able to meet deadlines.
  • Must understand the Native American community and culture and experience collaborating with people from diverse ethnic groups and various backgrounds.
  • Capacity for self-motivation and ambition with minimal supervision (work in the field and conduct community outreach).
  • Must have experience using PC based, networked computer software and hardware and other office automation tools.
  • Standard Employment Requirements

  • Must possess a valid and unrestricted Arizona driver's license (within 30 days of hire if applicant is from out-of-state) with no DUI / DWI or reckless driving convictions in the last five years. No more than two at-fault accidents in the last three years. Must maintain a valid Arizona driver's license during employment. Must be insurable under NATIVE HEALTH's liability auto policy.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and obtain a Class I Fingerprint Clearance Card within the initial ninety (90) calendar days of employment and retain a valid card while employed with NATIVE HEALTH.
  • Must pass substance abuse testing upon employment and submit to random testing during employment.
  • Must provide an updated immunization (IZ) record at the time of employment.
  • Must have a current (within 12 months) Tuberculosis (TB) skin report upon employment and provide an annual update.
  • Must obtain BLS certification within (90) calendar days of employment and maintain certification during employment.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABLITIES :

  • Strong research skills and the ability to provide insightful commentary related to American Indian / Alaska Native communities and needs.
  • Strong public speaking abilities on American Indian / Alaska Native issues and culture.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of data collection, research and assessment and the ability to maintain confidential records.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be familiar with the cultural, social, and economic backgrounds of the American Indian / Alaska Natives living in Maricopa County and surrounding areas.
  • Ability to work independently and to maintain a detail-oriented approach while meeting all requirements of the position.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with agency staff, representatives ofother agencies, clients, and the public
  • Knowledge of computer essentials, such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook)
  • Skill in using computer software programs to perform office management tasks effectively and efficiently, and comfortable performing data entry.
  • Ability to travel and be flexible in conducting the course of duties.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Knowledge of educational practices as applied to data extraction, manipulation, analysis and reporting preferred.
  • Knowledge of privacy and confidentiality policies and regulations.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and work in a diverse setting.
