Description

Under close supervision, the Recreation Leader assists in planning and conducting a wide variety of recreational and educational activities and programs such as day camps, youth and adult sports, leisure and enrichment classes and special events specific to the assigned program area of the position. This position oversees and directs the activities of the participants at the site.

The Cosumnes Community Services District is seeking to hire part-time seasonal Recreation Staff for Sports, Camps (includes Preschool, 1st - 6th Grade levels, Teens), and Concessions.

The summer season is anticipated to begin April 16, 2025 and run through October 15, 2025 . Actual hours assigned may be increased or decreased at anytime depending upon the needs of the program or department.

Please note : Once your application is submitted you may be invited to an assessment, fingerprint, and drug screening clinic. Candidates will be placed in positions based on qualifications and needs of Department.

Recreation Leader - Hourly Rate : $16.50

Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of a specific statement on duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all the duties listed. Employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level as required.

PROGRAM AREAS : Recreation staff work in fun, dynamic environment teaching and developing children through recreational activities, as well as, help maintain and monitor facilities to ensure our participants safety. Applicants will receive training and leadership training to ensure success within their positions.

Example of Duties :

  • Assists in planning, implementing and leading participants in a variety of recreation programs specific to a program area;
  • Follows cash handling procedures, ensuring policies are enforced and maintained;
  • Sets up and takes down equipment and assures all equipment and supplies are properly stored and secured at all times;
  • Provides a safe and clean environment with adequate supervision by implementing guidelines from CSD and Department policies and procedures manuals;
  • Provides courteous and professional service to all program participants, facility users, CSD personnel and the public;
  • Arrives on time and in proper attire / appearance as required by CSD guidelines;
  • Accountable for all program participants during program hours;
  • Monitors behavior of participants;
  • Conducts set up and clean up of facility and equipment;
  • Enforces rules and regulations of programs and facilities as mandated by CSD policies;
  • Follows cash handling procedures, ensuring policies are enforced and maintained;
  • Attends, and participates at staff meetings and trainings;
  • Completes appropriate reports and forms as necessary;
  • Conducts work tasks safely and in compliance with Department safety standards and the CSD Injury and Illness Prevention Program;
  • Required to work shifts, weekends, and holidays;
  • May assist in the on-site communication with parents, participants and the public;
  • May assist with the operation of preparing and selling food including specialty items.

Qualifications

Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities may be considered qualifying at the sole discretion of the District. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be :

  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, First Aid and CPR / AED certification within the first thirty (30) days of employment; Certification must be maintained through employment;
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Work Permit throughout employment, if under the age of 18;
  • Must be 15 years of age or older.
  • Recreation Leader Position in Camps - 1st-6th Grade levels requires the following :

  • Must be 16 years of age or older.
  • Recreation Leader Position in Camps - Preschool and Teens requires the following :

  • Must possess and maintain throughout employment a valid California class "C" driver's license, with a clean driving record;
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Knowledge of :

  • Current methods, techniques, principles, and procedures used in the planning and implementation process for a variety of children's recreational and education activities relevant to the assigned program area; Basic principles of child development and activities that support growth;
  • Basic principles of customer service;
  • Basic operation of appliances, equipment and office machines including a vacuum cleaner, heating and air conditioning unit, intrusion alarm, calculator, computer, keyboard, cash register, printers and other peripherals, copier, and fax machine;
  • Current methods and techniques used in preparing reports and forms, using a prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style;
  • Basic arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; calculation of decimals, ratios, percentages and fractions.
  • Ability :

  • Effectively and tactfully communicate both orally and in writing with program participants, EGUSD personnel, CSD personnel and the public;
  • Comprehend and prepare reports such as score sheets, accident, incident, and behavior reports, emergency, registration, and Hold Harmless forms using a prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style;
  • Analyze and use independent judgment in problem solving fairly routine situations such as supervising children's activities and trips, caring for children with injuries and resolving conflicts between participants to ensure safety.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Mobility : frequent use of keyboard; frequent sitting or standing for long periods of time; occasional walking, standing, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, crawling and twisting, and running while performing field work; frequent pushing, pulling or lifting up to forty (40) pounds for setting up programs, special events, food preparation, activities, games, and crafts;
  • Vision : constant use of overall vision; frequent computer use; occasional color and depth vision;
  • Dexterity : frequent repetitive motion; frequent writing and typing; frequent grasping, holding and reaching; frequent operation of office equipment and recreation related tools such as, but not limited to, scissors, plunger, mop, first aid supplies and hand tools;
  • Hearing / Talking : frequent hearing and talking in person and on the phone;
  • Emotional / Psychological : frequent decision making and concentration, frequent public and / or coworker contact; may occasionally work alone;
  • Driving : in designated positions - ability to use fine and gross motor coordination for driving.
  • Typical Working Conditions

    Work is typically performed in an office environment and / or outside in various types of weather. Incumbents may be exposed to noise, moisture, dust, vibrations, heat and cold. Work may take place and require travel in a vehicle to and from off-site indoor and outdoor locations throughout the District.

    Supplemental Information

    Conditional Offer Procedures - Candidates selected from the assessment will receive a conditional offer of employment contingent upon the successful completion of the following :
