DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Winter Diesel & Construction Equipment Mechanic , you will perform a variety of duties during the winter season, such as performing repairs and maintenance on various pieces of PennDOT equipment and diesel-powered vehicles, including heavy trucks weighing 26,001 pounds or greater, graders, backhoes, front end loaders, and other equipment.
As a Winter Automotive Mechanic , you will conduct skilled maintenance and repair of various vehicles, equipment, and parts to ensure that all fleet vehicles and equipment operates at peak efficiency and within department standards.

Winter Diesel & Construction Equipment Mechanic earn $27.75
Winter Automotive Mechanics earn $24.42
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS - Winter Diesel & Construction Equipment Mechanic
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements :
Two years of journey level mechanical experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Necessary Special Requirements :
Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
Conditions of Employment :
Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
Certain positions may require employees to possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
Certain positions require operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS - Winter Automotive Mechanic
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements :
Completion of an approved apprenticeship; or
Possess any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Necessary Special Requirements :
Some positions may require possession of a CDL of the class appropriate to the vehicles operated.
Certain positions may require employees to possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
