Most Web  Developers working today have a bachelor's degree or an associate's degree in computer science. However, if the time and money required to obtain a four-year degree are not available to you, there are other options.

There is no specific career path to becoming a Web  Developer, and it is possible to become a  Developer without formal education. In fact, there are more and more "coding boot camps" cropping up, which focus on employability and intensely immersing students in coding. Google, Apple, and IBM no longer require applicants to have college degrees.

However, there is some value in obtaining a college degree as it can expose aspiring Developers to the basics of web principles, best practices. College courses also help Developers build their skills in project management and critical thinking.

Regardless of how you build your coding skills, you should practice coding frequently and create an online portfolio. This lets prospective employers see the results of your successful websites.
