So long as it’s legal and moral, a concierge can help patrons do anything! From making recommendations to dinner reservations to booking tickets to a show, a concierge is there to help customers have the best possible travel experience.

Concierges are a wealth of experience of the city or town they live in, and they are there to provide guests with insider knowledge. Even questions such as “where should I park if I go to the beach?” or “where do I buy tickets to take public transit?” are something that concierges are happy to help guests with.

Concierges are expected to develop a network of contacts within their city, which is helpful for guests. For example, many maître d’s will set aside a table or two for the guests of their favorite concierge, even if the restaurant is fully booked.

Average Day of a Concierge
A concierge starts their day by clocking in and checking in with the rest of their team. They run reports of the day, check who will be checking in and checking out. They make notes of any incoming guest requests and prepare for any conferences that may be taking place in the hotel. A head concierge may have to brief their team or handle the schedule.

After that, there is no typical day. Concierges have to handle all kinds of requests, from getting tables at busy restaurants to tickets to sold-out shows. They may meet a guest with an unusual request, such as wanting a horse-drawn carriage for a special event.  This may require phone calls, emails, or calling in favors from business contacts. If there are any VIP guests, concierges may get briefed about what they need and ensure that their rooms are prepared accordingly.

After work, concierges frequently go out to restaurant openings or networking events to make contacts and keep abreast of the goings-on in their city.
