Modeling is a versatile industry where individuals are selected to represent a product or brand based on an aspect of their physical appearance. Depending on which field a Model chooses to work in, they will have a range of roles and responsibilities built around their contract or schedule. The work that a Model performs varies from photography to runway shows. Modeling work also depends on the Model themselves and the industry where they decide to aim their focus. For example, a high-end fashion Model may often walk in runway shows, whereas a fitness Model could be more involved with photography or videography work.

Models will often sign with representative agencies who negotiate with a variety of potential clients. Agencies can help Models network, advance their career, and ultimately give them work. Certain stereotypes are attached to this profession, with most Models in the industry needing to meet physical criteria considered unrealistic by many standards. The entire industry is changing, however, and has become more accepting of Models of all types. Nowadays, Models come in different shapes, sizes, ages, genders, and races, proving that Models are in demand, no matter the industry or type of Model.

Ultimately the role of a Model is to pose and represent the hiring company. New media has made it easier than ever for people to become Models or be scouted online by modeling agencies. There are many kinds of Models, and each career path possesses independent roles and responsibilities.
