A Personal Trainer is a certified professional that works directly with clientele to help them achieve specific fitness goals. Personal Trainers are hired by individuals or small groups and differentiate from other trainers because of the personalization they provide to each client. Reasons to hire a Personal Trainer will depend on the individual seeking coaching. Some examples include reaching specific weight loss goals, professional athlete training, or assist with chronic illnesses that require rehabilitation exercise.

Personal Trainers facilitate exercise and diet regimes with clients and act as experts of the human body and anatomy in a health and fitness context. They need to know what works best for each body type in terms of exercise and diet because this is how they will decide what is best for their clients.

Personal Trainers have specific knowledge to help instruct and design effective fitness programs and have varying levels of certifications depending on their areas of expertise. For example, some Personal Trainers may work extensively with a certain kind of athlete, such as a Football Player, while others may focus on elderly patients. Personal Trainers' roles and responsibilities will vary based on their clientele, but all focus on improving their clients' fitness routines.
